Which Fighter has the Best Plot for an award Winning classic Movie ?

Omar Sy would make a great Jack Johnson. He's tall enough and big and hulking. Also, he has just the right amount of IDGAF in his acting style to pull off the Johnson arrogance and conceit.

George Foreman because it has a very happy ending, at least as far as it's possible to judge how Foreman feels about life. The reason this makes it the best film plot material is we need happy endings to inspire us - violence, aggression and misery are not enough.

Any of these fighters and many more could have an all time great movie made about their in-ring and extra curricular activities.

 

They already did it with The Great White Hope (based on Johnson but changed the fighter's name to Jack Jefferson). Oscar fodder too- as both James Earl Jones and Jane Alexander (whose character was based on Etta Duryea) were nominated for gongs, deservedly too. Both were really good.

 

A lot of fighters lives are just too much to fit into a film, and many of the great boxing characters would almost seem too unrealistic for audiences I suspect.

I think that's why 'Cinderella Man' worked well. Not so much a life story, but a story from a boxer's life.

Raging Bull did the life story well, but it focused itself on the character's relationships and made the boxing more of a backdrop.

Having said all that, I'd want a movie on Tom Sharkey. Make it a bit artistic and let audiences be a little unsure of whether some things happen as presented, or are embellished. I'd have Tom as the story narrator to allow it to have a bit of bravado and tall tale style to it. Also, try to get truth in there as well. The time period would also be fun to see on film. Probably a lot of good actors that could reasonably play him as well.

Tiger Flowers is another one that would be interesting. It could have a bit of Harry Greb in the story as well, which would be cool.

Been done, it was called ( unsurprisingly " The Great White Hope " ) based on a 1967 book by Howard Slacker , the main lead called Jack Jefferson in the film was played by James Earl Jones, thinly disguised bio on Johnson's career , well the later part mainly, saw it at the pictures with friends, not a bad film on balance, there you go.

On Jack Johnson, he already had a movie, with just a few changes (last name etc)...............it starred James Earl Jones.

Sugar Ray Robinson needs a movie, I'm shocked he hasn't had one, his story in and out the ring would be entertaining.

Always thought a movie based on the life of Johnny Tapia would make for an interesting drama. He's had to deal with his personal demons, drug addiction, witnessed his own mother's death as a child, and faced rivals such as Romero and Ayala. He also had a wild, charismatic personality to go along with his crazy life (Mi Vida Loca).

 

The Great White Hope with the incomparable James Earl Jones as Jack "Jefferson". Superb! Please watch it!

 

A few years ago, when Johnson was pardoned for being stitched up, Stallone optioned the rights for the film rights on him.
These things take forever, e.g “Blood Meridian.”
It was a thread on here. I suggested then, it was too big a subject for a film, a Netflix style series, being more appropriate.

 

There is one of these on Netflix, a drama, “Monzon.” An Argentinian series, with a dead ringer of an actor in the lead.
“Dempsey” a 3 hour film came out around 30 years ago with Treat Williams.
Liston was played by Ving Rhames in “The Phantom Punch.”

 

George had a biopic released last year, thought it was solid.

Buster Douglas could have a movie as well, the story behind the Tyson fight is something of Hollywood.
