Basically Boxrec put a star rating on every boxing fight. If the fight is between two elite fighters, Boxrec will tag this as 5-star.

In this decade, Top 100 boxers are considered elite boxers. So when two Top 100 Boxers P4P fight, it will be tagged as a 5-star fight.

Here are the 15 Boxers with six or more 5-STAR WINS.
    Pacquiao - 18
    Mayweather - 16
    Canelo - 14
    Crawford - 10
    De La Hoya - 9
    Donaire - 9
    Inoue - 9
    Lomachenko - 9
    Hopkins - 7
    Gervonta Davis - 7
    Ioka - 7
    JC Chavez - 6
    GGG - 6
    Shakur - 6
    Carl Froch - 6

Which is the surprising fighter on the list? Which legend were surprisingly not included?

GGG being on the list is surprising. surprisingly Wladimir Klitschko is not on the list.

Hmm, I would say Kell Brook being listed as a 5 star win for Bud Crawford is a surprising fighter to be included on his list.

On that alone I think boxrec's system is a bit daft.

Yeah Kell was shot to bits when he fought Bud. As far as surprising names on the list, Lomachenko and Shakur being on the list renders it ridiculous.

Tank Davis on a list of fighters with best wins in modern boxing? lol

What exactly is a 5 star win anyway? Whatever they are Tank Davis has more of them than Lennox Lewis, RJJ and Holyfield.

For the past 5-10 years, it is when two fighters ranked Top 100 P4P fight.
During the 90s, not sure what is the cut-off. Probably only Top 50 P4P hence Lennox, Holy and RJJ have limited 5 star fights.
What is impressive is Julio Cesar Chavez resume is, he has six elite wins despite fighting in the 80s/90s.

Seems off. How the hel does crawford have more than DLH or BHop for example?
He barely has any names on his resume. Not having Morales, Barrera or Marquez here seems weird as well.

I think Boxrec just start using the Top 100 P4P just recently. So those pre-2006 fights have a more stringent qualification for 5-star fights. perhaps their opponent needed to be in Top 50 P4P to be classified as 5-star WIN.

Any kind of metrics based on Boxrec is flawed from the off!

I dont really rate boxrec anymore. Nowadays Wikipedia is better and their rating system sucks.

Maybe it should be who fought/beat most p4p ring magazine ranked fighters?

it’s flawed but boxrec deserves some respect for introducing some kind of objective algorithmic measure. otherwise all we have is a bunch of Bert Sugars going “this guy is the best and would beat everybody, I know I saw him fight”

The 1971 Ali-Frazier Fight of the Century only has four stars but the Shakur Stevenson-Joet Gonzalez fight has fight stars. Credibility gone.

Maybe you need boxrec and Bert Sugar. I have my own common sense and logic.

    Canelo has:
    Trout
    Lara
    Cotto
    Golovkin x2
    Jacobs
    Smith
    Plant
    And maybe ryder

Saunders best days were at 160 and charlo obviosly has no business at 168.

That is nine 5 star wins, but i only count lara and golovkin as 5 star wins, and maybe jacobs. And the thing they all have in common is that he looked very mediocre in all of them and needed the judges help.

All this is useless without context it's like saying Holmes beat a 5 star fighter in Ali but basically it wasn't even 5 percent of what Ali used to be making it a 0 star win with context.
