I believe these two guys sit behind Usyk and Fury when it comes to their respective careers (among the current era of heavyweights). They have long be compared, especially in the resume department. For me however the facts speak louder than the opinions of the fans, and AJ has clearly achieved more in his career. Joshua has notably beat these top 10/15 contenders: Wladimir Klitschko (41 years old) Dillian Whyte Otto Wallin Kubrat Pulev Alexander Povetkin Andy Ruiz Jr Joseph Parker Deontay Wilder has beaten these top 10/15 contenders: Bermane Stiverne (1) Luis Ortiz 1 Luis Ortiz 2 While Wilder did give a spirited performance in the Fury trilogy, he is finishing his career having lost nearly 50% of his fights against top 10/15 guys. Joshua has the better resume, and has a stronger set of professional achievements. For me it’s clear who has had the better career. What does everyone else think?
In Joshua's favour is the old WK he went life and death (still his best win) would likely beat the poor condition Fury of Wilder 1 and 3 and put away Ortiz. Wilder doesn't have a marquee win of that calibre. You could argue the Fury draw was his best night and that was a loss on most cards so Joshua eclipses Wilder despite the embarrassing Ruiz ko loss and two one sided Usyk point defeats.
Fair points, I still think Fury from the third fight would have been tough to beat but he was certainly slower on his feet which made things easier for Deontay.
If we put them in the opposite fighters career... AJ might've lost Fury 2 (hard to tell, but wouldn't surprise me), but would've won Fury 1 and quite probably 3. Everyone else Wilder's fought he would (or did) beat. Wilder would definitely have lost to Wlad and Usyk, and did lose to Parker. IMHO he would've lost to Whyte and Povetkin too (which is why he ducked them) and the swarmer Ruiz from the first fight would've been a nightmare for him, he'd have had a good chance of winning the rematch, though. Then you get down to Pulev and Wallin - I think he'd probably beat Wallin (though he's not easy to hurt), but Pulev is more like a 50/50 IMHO. In short... Not remotely close.
AJ, no brainer. Wilder wasn't that impressive. He knocked out like 3 ranked opponents or something. I bet Povetkin has stopped more ranked fighters than Wilder.
Just AJ knocking out Wlad (knocked out after 13 years) is better than anything in Wilder's career. And there's more...
Let's update the list a bit. Wladimir Klitschko (41 years old, last fight before retiring, pulled out of rematch because 'didn't have it anymore' as admitted over dinner to manager) Dillian Whyte Otto Wallin (everyone claimed he was average or bad until AJ fought him) Kubrat Pulev (40 years old and literally just had Covid) Alexander Povetkin (39 years old and shot) Andy Ruiz Jr (beaten nobody except AJ, in rematch was even more obese and didn't train according to trainer, AJ ran around scared to go for stoppage) Joseph Parker So the only decent wins are nearly-retired Wlad, Whyte and Parker really. Parker win hadn't aged well until the other week when he beat old Wilder AJ was avoiding. Was Whyte ever better than Chisora? Deontay Wilder has beaten these top 10/15 contenders: Bermane Stiverne (1) Luis Ortiz 1 (40 ish) Luis Ortiz 2 (40 ish) Helenius, old though on a roll, just beat the fat Pole twice. Other notes: Wilder ducked Povetkin whilst AJ ducked Fury and Wilder. Both are dangerous fighters but protected brands and duckers, Hearn is just better at manipulating people, because AJ's resume is not much different to Wilder's when you look closely. And though Wilder lost to Fury, he was dangerous in two fights and almost won, which counts for a lot more than wins over Whyte and Parker really. AJ can't say he's been competitive with Fury because he ducked him multiple times now.
Easily AJ and glad the poll is reflecting that. Wilder beat a load C or D level hand picked poor opponents. Compare their notable wins AJ - Wlad, Povetkin, Whyte, Parker, Ruiz, Pulev Wallin and Takam. Wilder - Ortiz and that's it! The likes of Stiverne, Duphaupas, Spzilka, Brezeale and Washington aren't the even the level of Wallin or Takam.
Pulev could go either way for me, Takam he probably beats. Whytes much more proven than anyone Wilder's beaten and he'd have come forwards and denied him space - questionable chin or not, I think Whyte would've knocked Wilder out. The Ruiz that beat Joshua for me is at least a 60/40 to beat Wilder, maybe more... Ruiz in the rematch flip those numbers. These guys are all at least equal to Ortiz, and that's generous to the old Cuban, in many cases they were clearly better than him - and Wilder went life and death with Ortiz, I'd be cautious backing him to beat anyone better unless he had a big stylistic advantage
Speaking as a member of the tribes of the great peoples of the tiny majestic isle of Great Britain, the AJ narratives we're subjected to from the British boxing press and fight fraternity are often nauseating and insufferable. But that being said, enough of this nonsense regarding AJ vs The Dosser already. It's not remotely close in terms of accomplishments amateur or pro, quality of opposition amateur and pro, risks taken etc. It's akin to comparing Wallin to Usyk so please no more. The Dosser is irrelevant put a fork in his ass and his career because both are done. Game over.
When the two votes for Wilder don’t post any type of justification for him having the better career, you know they just hate him. But the answer is easily AJ. Better resume, better wins.
