Tavoris Cloud vs. Julio Cesar Gonzalez on Friday Night Fights

i missed this fight, is there a video anywhere of it?

 

One more big punch from Cloud was only seconds away, so it really doesn't matter.

Props to Gonzelez for staying on his feet and never giving up.

 

Great, now there's another opponent Erdei won't dare to fight.

 

i don't know if he's ready for a title at this point perhaps one more solid opponent

 

That Gonzalez kid has a good chin.

 

I thought it was a late stoppage.
FFS, Julio is only 32 in REAL life and boxers should be protected from undue punishment.
I was getting really pissed about his corner and the ref letting this fight go on.

 

Could showed me he has the potential to be a very special fighter. He has nice defense which can get better, he can box, he can power punch, the only part of his offense lacking is an inside game, mainly body work.

I want to see this guy against Chris Henry, if he can beat Henry, this guy can definitely beat all the champs in the division, with the exception of Tarver.

 

I'd like to see a bit more of Cloud before thinking he can beat Dawson. Right now I think Dawson wins a solid decision over Cloud something like 8-4.

 

Cloud looked excellent in totally dominating Gonzalez last night. It was one-sided and could have been stopped sooner than what it was. Gonzalez's corner should have stopped the fight sooner actually. Cloud looked like a beast in there. Great power and handspeed and attacks most of the time. He also showed some nice defense and a decent jab that he could/should have used more.

I think part of the reason he looked so good also rests with Gonzalez. He has slipped from being a top 5 type of guy to being a top 15 guy whose future will be a tough gatekeeper. Thats if last nights beating doesn't take too much out of him. Gonzalez's style and deteriorating were made to order for Cloud. But he still deserves a lot of credit for the way he chewed up Gonzalez and the exciting manner he did it in. Since both are coming off nice ESPN wins I'd like to see a Cloud-Shawn George match on that station. Give Cloud another year of experience and Glenn Johnson another year of aging and that is a can't miss fight of the year type fight.

I see some say he reminds them of Lacy and I'd agree with that some but Cloud looks to have more upside than Lacy. Cloud has better handspeed and isn't as plodding as Lacy. He also showed more of a jab than Lacy used. I'm looking foward to seeing more of him the lightheavyweight division is full of old vets that keep rotating fights amongst themselves. A young exciting fighter like Cloud is just what the division needs.

 

Cloud needs a little more time before facing the winner of Tarver-Dawson.

 

Cloud looked outstanding in there. His offense was sizzling, his punches were fast, accurate and crippling, he looked to have a complete arsenal, most everything he landed came across as having authority and snap, and his defense didn't look half-bad either. On the downside, he did slow down noticeably after the first six rounds, leading to the fight lingering on until the 10th when the ref stopped it more or less out of mercy (Gonzalez probably would've lasted the distance). Speaking of the stoppage, I didn't think it was a bad one- Gonzalez had been staggered numerous times and had taken a plethora of murderous shots, had lost every round or close to it, and was showing no signs of having a shot at turning it around. Even though he wasn't all that badly staggered at the time of the stoppage and was probably on his way to lasting the full route, this was a situation where a stoppage to avoid him taking more serious damage may have been legitimately warranted.

 

Cloud looked good in that fight. He reminded me a little of James Toney the way he countered off that shoulder roll.

 

Yeah that's the guy who reminds me of more than Lacy.
