Been done before. Possibly the most brutal fight that could be imagined. I would pick Marciano only because he fought at 185 against HWs, while Beterbiev is fighting at 175.
Even though I've commented on this matchup before I still have a hard time predicting how this fight goes down. My gut goes with Beterbiev as I think his amateur pedigree and shorter, chopping shots will allow him to get through against the wilder swing for the fences style of Marciano, but whatever the outcome it's going to be a gruelling task for both men. And Marciano could shorten up his punches when he needed to. He usually adopted that wide braced ducking and swaying caveman style when fighting bigger opponents as it gave him maximum demolition power. He might opt to be a bit cagier here.
It wouldn't matter in this matchup though as they'd be fighting almost physical clones of one another.
OK, its been done before. But I don't understand the implied criticism of doing another thread like this that was done before. Does it cause any great harm?
No sir. It is just that this was being discussed in a thread a little over a week ago, so I thought uyou might like to see some of the opinions that have already come in.
Marciano is p4p one of the ATGs.. his style & power are totally unique to him.. he was a stand alone.. still is.. I've seen no one like him since .. bludgeoning Smith, Yarde & Browne isn't remotely comparable to 15 rounders with the likes of Charles, Layne, Moore & Walcott... Beterbiev is a specimen but they are cut from different cloths.. the sport today is a lot different. Marciano gets a lot of heat because some of his opponents were getting on in years.. yet they forget to give him credit when he beat men like Rex Layne.. who had beaten younger versions of Walcott & Charles.. he also beat Roland Lastarza , an undefeated highly regarded contender... old & young Marciano whooped em. Gotta go with the rock here..
Rocky should be favored for now, but anything could happen. This would be a gruesome but crowd pleasing war.
