Who do you take between the prime version of these two? Beterbiev's weakness is quick slick fighters and RJJ has a weakness vs. pure power punchers

Beterbiev did seem to struggle against the good technical boxer Gvozdyk, but I just see him breaking Roy down as the fight goes on. I think his chin is good enough to handle Roy's power as well.

If Tarver could crack Roy by simply catching him off guard, imagine what Beterbiev will do. Beterbiev KO 2.

Roy avoided Dariuz like a plague, so I’d imagine Beterbiev would smash him

I don't think Roy's punch resistance was the same after he went back down to 175 following the Ruiz fight. He was a shredded 193 vs. Ruiz, and said that it was extremely difficult to make 175 again, and it showed, because his career went off a cliff after that. The Roy Jones of 1997-2002 would certainly have been a problem for Beterbiev. I could see it going the way of Taylor-Chavez, with Roy building up a lead, then having to try to survive problems in the later rounds. Gvozdyk carried a lead into the tenth round vs. Beterbiev, and Roy was faster, more elusive, and just a more difficult fighter to deal with than Gvozdyk IMO. I think Roy would have been on high alert vs. AB, and would have boxed, beaten him to the punch consistently, and clinched when in any danger. I would lean Roy UD, but wouldn't bet on it. Beterbiev's chances would be better in a 15 rounder. Great matchup.

When Beterbiev destroys Bivol in another spectacular knockout; you will say: "RJJ would also fall".

Just think, if Roy had retired after Ruiz..
They wouldn't give Beterbiev a cat in hells chance.

The odds heavily favor RJJ here.

If the question is: can RJJ outbox Beterbiev? The answer is yes.

Can he outbox him for 12 rounds? Man, I have my doubts. I'm not at all confident that Jones' chin is going to be up to this task. Most likely Jones goes from looking good to looking worse and worse as the fight progresses. Make the fight a 6 rounder and I'll take RJJ. Over a longer stretch, Beterbiev.

Jones didn't get hit much at all at his best. He fought two near-prime HOF'ers in Hopkins and Toney, and they.both had trouble getting a glove on Roy....and Roy didn't lose much speed/quickness when he went up to 175. Not much evidence that Roy had chin issues until he foolishly went back down to 175 after Ruiz, depleting the crap out of himself.

Understandable that there would be doubts about Roy going 12 though. Beterbiev is extraordinarily heavy-handed. Excellent matchup, but I believe Roy would have gotten it done here.
