Boxing has zero integrity .. so why we pretending it should? We're talking about a sport that allows fighters to rehydrate 20+lbs overnight .. a sport who's judges can barely tie their own shoelaces let alone score a fight.. so let's not act like iffy results in ped tests are shocking
If we don't disavow Holyfield of all people for snacking on PEDs like they're PEZ's, we can't do it to Beterbiev either. And frankly what would it accomplish anyways? So many of the dudes a the top are on PEDs that we'd likely have decades of champions across all weight classes being considered invalid. Obviously Joshua and Ngannou are others on steroids as there's no way to get a physique like that unless your on the roids. Fury popped positive for them too IIRC, but we don't hold that against him do we? Canelo apparently tested for them right before the GGG2 fight. Also like @Mike_Jones said, what about the other guys who come into the ring 20 lbs over? Haney is a prime example as he routinely looks much bigger than his opponents on fight night, yet as far as we know he is never sanctioned or even fined over it. This is just as bad as the roid users.
Alright, I have a few reasons to reasonably suspect Beterbiev of using performance enhancing substances. Andre Kulesza is his main strength and conditioning coach. There’s an article from 1989, where Canadian weightlifter Jacques Demers tested positive for steroids. Andre Kulesza was the trainer for that Canadian weightlifting team, that eventually went to the Olympics in 1984. He also trained Jean Pascal who tested positive for steroids. Also, in 2019 there were rumors circulating that Oscar Rivas failed a drug test, who is another Kulesza fighter. Although, It’s possible he didn’t fail the drug test and it was an “Atypical” finding and not an adverse finding (Sound Familiar). Beterbiev also was competing in the Olympic’s at the height of Russia’s alleged “state sponsored doping” from 2006-2011. Now this can all just be coincidences, in addition to his “Atypical” finding, and testosterone levels increasing despite his age at 38, or maybe he’s possibly been using for years.
I’d be interested to know if his hematocrit level in his blood was abnormal too as it’s one of the easiest way to confirm if an athlete is juicing.
I thought you were gearing up for arguing for a PED free-for-all there And let's be honest, it's hard to argue that fighters should be protected from themselves by banning roids when they're permitted to risk their health by boiling down to fight multiple divisions lighter than they should be in.
It's checked when cyclists get their doping test. I think most people are aware that using EPO increases hematocrit but even taking exogenous testosterone derivatives will increase it too. That's why skinny little Lance Armstrong was on 2 grams of test/week.
Beterbiev has not changed his entire career. RedPed had a complete body transformation and tested positive multiple times - swept under the carpet. Harping on about Beterbiev's test is typical for the boxing politicians, it suits their narrative. You "experts" may have more knowledge about PEDS but do you think you have the information to say that Beterbiev is a serious drug cheat?
