100% And a big part of that is to build his name so he can claim decent cuts... For now he has very limited name recognition (as well as limited achievements) - as you say, fighting Ortiz makes sense in that context, even if he's an ancient shell of a fighter who was overhyped and under proven.
Sine Ortiz lost to Wilder, and Wilder aint even a contender after being exposed to Parker, I think it is easy win for a Jalolov who won everything there is to win at amateurs. Also guy is towering over Ortiz while being younger, faster and more powerfull. No chance.
From a name value perspective, big step up. Ortiz clearly can still punch based on the Martin fight, but durability is a big issue. The win would also be marred somewhat based on the fact we know he’s probably the same age as James Toney …
Ortiz was always extremely overrated due to a single win over another overrated boxer in Jennings. Ortiz went life and death with eve Charles Martin and was dropped twice. Jalolov makes easy work of Ortiz. After the hat hopefully they feed Wilder to Jalolov for another easy win for Jalolov.
I bet Bakole would fight him for a Saud payday. Ortiz is still top 15-20 but will be knocked out here.
Wilder shattered Ortiz's durability, you can tell this by the fact he nearly got Humpty Dumpt-ied against Martin and Fat Andy. Ortiz should retire.................
Big step up albeit Ortiz is older than Jalolov's grandfather's grandfather. Jalolov can really crack and Ortiz cannot take a pop on the whiskers so he should KO the old man.
Mitch quotes: July 2018 Mitch: Post-Wilder 1 Luis Ortiz > Whyte and Parker. August 2018, 9 and 10 switched in October 2018 Wilder was Mitch's 2nd top heavyweight on resume after AJ KO'd Povetkin. January 2021 Mitch: 2016 Martin > 2017 Takam Hammer was also a "notable win" for Ortiz according to Mitch. Ortiz was ranked by Ring, PBO, TBRB etc. for about 7 years. Prior to 2019 his performances against mutual opponents were always better than those of Pulev, Joyce, Parker, Whyte and Chisora in terms of power, pointfighting and defence.
Mitch rated 2016 Martin as better than Takam ever was in 2021. It was only after 42+ 2 KO defeat Ortiz got off the canvas twice (something that should be lauded given the context) to KO Martin that Martin tumbled down Mitch's rankings.
I don't know how Ortiz hasn't retired yet. Jalolov would be way to quick for him in addition to Ortiz probably losing all his punch resistance. A shame as Ortiz was genuinely a very dangerous fighter in his best days almost a decade ago, I think he would have beaten Ruiz, Whyte, Joyce and so on at the time.
Hindsight. Martin lost to Kownacki and Takam has beaten Yoka since. Ratings change based on performances as they should do.
