I like Botha. He even went to K-1 Kickboxing and knocked out a world champion or got the decision lol.

    No Don King involved.

How about Brian Mitchell? Won the title from Alfredo Layne, and made 12 title defenses...all on the road I believe. He's got to be near the top of any such list I would think.

We all know that the greatest of all the African boxers was Andrew six heads Lewis!

Okay maybe not the greatest, but definitely in the running for one of the greatest nicknames ever LOL

    RIP Champ.

Agree with you on the nickname, but he was from South America (Guyana).

Harry Simon (Namibia) was 31-0 (23 KOs), and had a win over Winky Wright.

Another pretty good fighter from South Africa was Mbulelo Botile, who was a 2 division belt holder.

Simpiwe Vetyeka is worth a mention. He beat the crap out of long-reigning Chris John to win a belt.

Some others I don’t think have been mentioned.

    Ayub Kalule
    Brian Mitchell
    Vic Towell
    David Kotey
    Nana Konadu

Special shout-out to Lovemore Ndou who though not nearly as accomplished as many others mentioned had an astonishing career.

I wouldn’t argue with anyone who listed Sumbu Kalambay. Though he is technically a product of the Italian boxing system, he is certainly one of the best African born fighters.

The kid who ran into an unknown Pacquiao, Lehonolo Ledwaba looked really good.
