Who'd Win Lennoxx Lewis or Sonny Liston ?

    Nothing desperately unreasonable here, apart from the studying thing. I'll add one thing, and that's that Liston may actually be better at utilising his reach than Lewis. He stepped in expertly with the jab and he reached across himself, if you see what I mean, extended himself across the distance from knee to torso. Could make him vulnerable, but it's a thing.

    Think i'm going to get on and do things too. Especially as the "he was bigger" crowd seem to have rolled up.

    Tyson and Mccall for example. Razor Ruddock and Briggs had pretty good chins too.

    McCall had a nervous breakdown in the ring and Tyson fought one round.


    EDIT: Being hard on the Tyson thing actually, that was some display by Lennox.

    I give a slight edge to Lewis only because of how boxing has progressed defensively over the years, and Lewis did have a great defense. However if Liston could catch Lewis with anything with power on it Lewis would be in trouble, I dont care how good his chin is Liston was very powerful. Both have an 84 inch reach but Lewis has a 4 inch height advantage. If Lewis could stay on the outside and unload straight rights off his jab I give him a UD win. If Liston goes all out from round one and can keep his head movement going while on the attack I say Liston by KO in 7.

    Put it this way - Lewis was more complete than anyone Liston ever beat. And yeah, it's probably the same the other way around too.

    The difference being that Liston was outclassed
    **** off! Neithe of those were close to being as skilled as Lewis.
    I think Ali would siagree with you there. Discounting the second fight, Liston was on his way to getting stopped in the first by accumulation.

    I don't think Liston ever proved his toughness. he certainly didn't come close to proving he had a "granite jaw".
    Lewis was always better on the backfoot, so Liston coming forward would suit him too. I don't agree with the idea that Liston is always on the move. You make him out to be as relentless as Marciano. It would be a jabbing match in the cnetre of the ring with Lewis ocassionally taking a back step. when a Liston right hand aimed two minutes before swings past his chin.



    I think a big reason Lewis would win this fight is that he would fight cautiously. I think to beat Lewis you have to lull him into a false sense of security. The people who did this either beat him or came close to. See, Rahman, McCall, Mercer, Klitschko and so on. IN a way, Liston is almost too good to beat Lewis. Because Lewis would not underestimate Liston and take any chances.

    **** off yourself. Lewis is more skilled than both, but your original claim was that they were more "technically proficient". Not the same thing, at all.


    Far to much is made of the "beating" Liston took in that fight. Ali does not hit as hard as Williams and connected less. The fight was even on two of the cards going into the sixth.

    He was unloaded upon by Williams, Liston himself: "If I had a weak part on my body that man would have found it because he hit me all over, upstairs and downstairs."

    As for toughness, Liston fought 8 rounds with a badly broken jaw and pulled a plough across a field like a ****ing horse whilst being whipped by his father.


    No, I don't, and I don't see it that way at all. Marciano is a styles disaster for Lewis because he's coming in hard. Liston shuffles in, although he can commit suddenly when called upon to do so. Liston brings steady pressure, more like the pressure Calzaghe brought to Hopkins than what Marciano brings. He's always in range or looking to be in range.

    I don't agree that this would happen, and if it did, I think Lewis would lose.


    I'm sick of hearing this from Lewis peole (Even though I am one). LIke because he was cautioss against a past-prime Tyson this proves he will beat Liston.

    Lewis is an all around better fighter. Liston would be a stationary target and get koed.

    I think LENNOX HAD A LOT OF TALENT AND THE BEST AMONG THE BIG GUYS. I CAN SEE IT BEING ANOTHER RUDDUCK FIGHT OR I CAN SEE LEWIS TAKING IT UNTIL MID FIGHT....I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE A PRIME SONNY CAN DO TO A PRIME LEWIS WHAT HAPPENED VS MCCALL OR RAHMAN, I THINK LEWIS WOULD LET HIM FEEL HIS POWER EARLY.....BUT SONNY HAS A PUNCHERS CHANCE JUST LENNOX HAS THAT + MORE
