Manny KOed the linear ring magazine 140lb champ in 2 rounds, in his 6th weight division up. Then he destroyed Cotto in his 7th division up. If you counted only what he did at 147lbs, he would still be a hall of famer in his 7th weight division up. He is the only 8 division world champ and he toyed with and dominated most of the best at 147lbs, against current or former world champs and made it look easy. He got robbed vs Bradley in the first fight and most feel he beat Horn too. If he got those decisions he would be 15-3 at 147lbs and above, all vs current or former world champs.

Pac is not overrated. He's one of the best fighters I've ever seen.

Every serious poster here would have them that way around. GGG may be more popular here, and have more fans to defend and promote him, yes, but no one seriously has him higher on their ATG list. I'm a GGG fan and I don't even think it's particularly close.

    Re the OP.

My view of ATG-ness is based around giving us great, historic fights. Pacquiao did that aplenty, win or lose.

I happen to agree he's a bit overrated H2H. There are IMHO quite a few less-great fighters who would have beaten him especially at 147+ H2H.

But he fought lots and kept fighting good names, making him a true ATG.

Context matters, because Sam Langford beat Joe Gans at lightweight and had a draw with Joe Walcott at welterweight, and then fought Jack Johnson at heavyweight. Sam Langford was an anachronistic phenomenon, because had it not been for segregation and Jim Crow, he would’ve been a 10 division world champion. Pacquiao left an indelible mark on the sport, and accomplished something that places him in the annals of Boxing History, BUT he is overrated. Some people argue he’s the greatest boxer of all time and I think he’s overrated in that respect.

Generally, I'd say yes. The 'titles in 8 weight divisions' - while a unique type of greatness - does not give him carte blanche to waltz into the top ten of all time. Too many great fighters with better wins than Barrera ('03) and more dominant in their prime.

You are better at expressing yourself than I am. This was pretty much my point. Of course used Duran and Armstrong as my examples but Sam Langford is perfect as the were both transcended wiegt classes.

I’d have to disagree with the overrated assumption of Marquez. Fantastic fighter, great counter puncher, has names on his resume along with 9 world championships as well as lineal lightweight champion at one point. I thought Pacquiao and Marquez were made for eachother. Oh and Marquez would have dumped Hamed on his ass with a sharp counter from a wild punch from Hamed
