Have to say, Artur is better than any of Toney's LH competition, which makes this matchup very interesting.
Beterbiev would be one of Toney’s toughest fights and his toughest test at 175. He did not face a guy as dangerous as Beterbiev. That being said Toney was a special defensive fighter and incredibly tough himself. I lean towards him eeking out a decision.
As is always the case depends which Toney shows up the fit motivated one or the lazy out of condition one. But if we're talking the best version then I'd favour Toney. Toney's always eaten up aggressive fighters alive it's always been the elusive boxer types like RJJ and Griffin that gave him the most problems. Yes Beterbiev can punch very hard but Toney took clean shots of hard hitting heavies. So Toney wins a decision, Beterbiev just doesn't have the style to exploit Toney's weaknesses.
at 175? toney had only 7 fights at 175 and he lost 3 of them. Beterbiev easily. Historically it's better to match toney with 160lbs fighters.
Toney wasn't a true cruiserweight or heavyweight and he had plenty of success at those weights. So to say Beterbiev easily knowing Toney beat bigger guys like Jirov, Ruiz ECT is just being naive.
Fit and motivated Toney was nearly impossible to beat unless your offensive reflexes are superior to his defensive reflexes a la RJJ, I think Toney UD based on the difference in speed of his reactions and AB's punches. AB gives a good account of himself though
Toney on his best day has the skill to match anyone in history , he was just lazy.. LHW wasn't a great part of his career.. he lost to montell Griffin twice & then Drake Thadzi.. in fact he came in as a CW for Thadzi LOL.. he just wasn't a great LHW and put on quite flat performances sometimes.. Michalkzewski would be a more interesting match up for Beterbiev for me personally.. Toney would probably have his moments but ultimately get pummeled
