Eddie is doing it to prove a point, Sky are alsmost done tbh, he is looking to gradually destroy them.
I guess theyll take darts and their other sports over to DAZN once the Sky Contract is done? God the Hearns are cold.
Zero chance of that. Darts thrives on big audiences DAZN will never give them in the UK. People were campaigning for it to go back on the BBC a few weeks ago, never mind another pay channel! Snooker does absolutely fine between BBC and Eurosport.
I was told by someone in bens amateur gym that he gets paid 80k per fight and received a 400k signing on fee. He’s never headlined a show, I doubt he sells many tickets. My guess is, he will leave boxxer after his10 fight deal. He will want some of that Saudi money, and boxxer and sky have been cut out.
Fascinating on two counts. 1 - that Boxxer would be stupid enough to pay that kind of dough (but it mirrors what @Trafford has said about these olympian signings all along) 2 - Despite probably hating each other really... Warren and Hearn are the boxing establishment and don't want anyone outside their rivalry doing well. Amusing given Warren fought to get rid of the original "cartel" and Hearn had to work around it to get the Bruno-Bugner fight!
I'm not privvy to the final amounts but I know Fraser's contract with for essentially 7 figures. Hearn went heavy on Whittaker to the point they shot promo videos about the signing and made very good offers to, Clarke, Price and Artingsall and Boxxers offers were way and above what Matchroom offered. To the point Eddie told a few of them to go and take the money. Fraser Clarke was still going to sign with Eddie but Eddie told him not to. The biggest issue for Boxxer now is going to be holding on to these fighters. The matchmaking has also been far too slow. Price has had almost the same amount of fights as Sandy Ryan who has won a belt, fought for undisputed and Whitaker is miles behind in rankings compared to the likes of Shakkan Pitters and Ezra Taylor. The next batch of Olympians are due to come this year lets see if they make the same mistake again. 2. I don't think Hearn planned stop anyone. He just wanted to compete with Sky as they are the number 1 broadcaster. He wanted to try to get to their level and if you look the first 3-6 months he was fine with Ben. Its when he started speaking to contracted fighters, tried to speak to team of fighters to stop fights being made on Matchroom shows. Pulls out of pursebids with weak excuses, went in on Benn etc when he has been doing questionable things behind the scenes and then gives BBC friendly interviews in public about himself when he is lying through his teeth. That's when Matchroom decided enough is enough and to fight back. We still dont actually know who owns Boxxer from what i can tell
Interesting stuff. What do you think happens to Boxxer when the Sky deal is up next year? I've also heard they're desperately trying to get Brook out of retirement in the hope they can do him v Eubank on PPV as they don't have any other PPV fights. Whittaker's opponents are garbage. His next fight will be his 6th in 2 years. He should have had that many in year 1. His opponent next weekend is ranked about 350th in the weight division below.
Tbf..Bens nx opponent has been in with 4 good level fighters in his last 5 fights. Azeez, Parker, Ezra Taylor and itauma. None stopped him iirc.
Granted a good journeyman. You have Chev Clarke with similar amount of fights fighting Tommy McCarthy in his back yard. Could he have have no fough Ricky Summers or Shakkan Pitters?
Jury out big time. I think they have 18 months to save their bacon. If it was today they would not renew on the same terms at the very least. They would either pull out or have budget cut. Maybe lower it to Warren's budget for the Telford cards. My guess is boxxer have to get 4/5 PPVs up and running in next 18 months as that is how Sky fund boxing. if not they maybe will go non exclusive and possibly do a deal with DAZN and TNT to host their PPV cards on the platform. Will be interesting as there was a few in Sky that wanted to cut boxing when Matchroom left.
Think Summers is out and there's.maybe a fight in the pipeline for Pitters. But I get your point. I'm not going to have a go at Ben, considering I didn't have a go at the other 4. I understand what they're trying to do with Ben but dont think it'll work out that way.
When you as a promoter build a new boxer's career, they must have 6 - 7 fights per season to ensure a development. Boxxer / Sky have not been skilled enough and have not found the right opponents at the right time. Frazier Clarke is a good example of a boxer who has not developed at all.
