Hearns boxing is underrated like how SRL's toughness is underrated. Leonard could never outbox Tommy but he was way tougher than his pretty boy weasel marketing image let on. He had it in him to always find a way to win. Over 12 rounds, Hearns wins most fights, over 15 SRL wins. Second fight was heading in the sane way as the first. Hearns got robbed though, even srl admitted that.
I believe hearns wins 7-8/10 times over 12 rounds. Still atleast 5/10 times over 15 but Ray just had the clutch gene to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat on any given night. Tommy was a great fighter, amazing technically but he just wasnt quite the warrior Leonard was(which is in no way a disparagement, Hearns was a warrior, leonard just even more so)
One of the greatest fighters ever and one of my favorites. If he chose to not get into brawls sometimes he could have been even greater. Ducked no one.
Warrior as in warrior spirit? I have to disagree. He was every bit a warrior. Just not as durable as Leonard.
Wow they were just built different or so it seems at least to me. Crawford is a great boxer but for some reason I just cannot picture him being successful against either Leonard or a Hearns.
I just really can't see it. With Chavez for example I could picture him in the ring with like an Arguello for example. But with Crawford and even Pac I can't picture them in the ring with a,Leonard or Hearns and being competitive. I know they are great boxers and I'm not saying they are not.
Maybe thats part of it, but Leonard got hurt just like Tommy did but he just found a way to survive and come back or hold on to the win better than Hearns. However i believe Hearns had a bit of bad luck in the first Leonard and Hagler fights as well with overtraining and injury if what Emmanuel Steward said was true
surely that's on him as Hearns head trainer to make sure he doesn't overtrain? In his 2 biggest career fights once is bad enough but to do it twice is just unacceptable
I womt say Crawford beats either but neither SRL or Hearns walk through Crawford. That's a ****ing fight.
Man I don't know a 6'1 welterweight with insane speed the power of a Middleweight and the reach of a heavyweight is alot to overcome especially when you have never faced anything close to that.
I rewatched the rematch and I think a draw could be argued, SRL was fighting like mad after the KDs. I didn't realize this fight had a CW at 164. Even though both guys easily made weight.
