When I was an amateur I used this style and it's the most effective technique to date, ala F.Mayweather,James Toney,Tavoris Cloud,Oscar De La Hoy, and some other fighters have used it. Whats the best defense you know of,and who do you think is the best defensive fighter of all times? My pick for best defensive fighter is James Toney he rarely gets hit flush. Pernell Whitaker,Chris Byrd, M.Ali, B-Hop,F.Mayweather.
Wlad's D is very good,,,, jab and lean back as far as possible and flair your arms around when a punch is coming in then lunge in and grab.... repeat that over and over again
James Toney has a great old-school defense Floyd Mayweather defense technique : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl_l7P5T8qs
I wouldn't say one defense is better or worse than any other caus esome fighters might not be able to do things other can do. IMO the most impressive defense I have seen was pernell whitikar. I don't know what you would call it but he had a way of standing right in front of someone and still making them miss altogether as opposed to blocking the blows. Being able to bend and move at the waste the way that he did would be my prefered way to defend myself.
It's a good defence, but like any other you have to be suited to use it. You see guys trying to impersonate it and look completely unnatural and ineffective. I remember De La Hoya trying to implement a shoulder roll and he looked a clown. The best defence is the one that works for you.
winky def does not use this defense. Jermaine taylor is another that does tho. mayweather does it the best and most effective
thats a peek-a-boo style not a philly shell. a philly shell is a cross guard with your lead arm around your waist with the elbow facing your opponent and shoulder tucked in against your jaw. with your obverse arm wedged against your other cheek. This content is protected this is a horrible example but you get the drift [YT]VXNzF0OGhrM[/YT]
yeah taylor uses it a bit. but more of a half guard with the low left hand and a tuant teak right hand so if you attack he can cover behind the right and tee off with the left hook/uppercut or take a step back and counter with a right hand.
Peter's defense isn't bad, it's genuis in a way. Don't bother with any head movement, absorb the opponent's blows until they tire, and then destroy them with a shot to the back of the head.
i have been watching a bit of azumah nelson and my god what an awkward style it looks like fraziers cross arm swarming stlye mixed with sakio bika jab(long but very unatural) and pernell whitakers boobing and weave...bizaar style
