    Are you kidding? People would be getting paralyzed without the gear. Getting smashed by 250-300+ pound men at full speed is very dangerous. What exactly is the chance of that happening in soccer? Probably not very high hence they only need to wear a shirt and shorts. But American football is some dangerous ****.
