Joshua has continued n the path after the first 2-3 rds against Helenius. Looking sharp with calculated pressure and the finishing blow always waiting to come out. Also his pull counter has really looked excellent in his last two fights. Hope Hrgovic is next. That fight would certainly tell us more because Hrgovic has good power and skills, while his last two opponents have been either or.
I have to admit I had no interest in either Fury or AJ vs Ngannou. I always viewed them as distractions. And I blame Fury for it. If anything, last night crystallized for me that Fury is a fraud, trying to cheat his way to ATG status.
Nothing. Just another joke fight. One opponent allowed to use all of his skills and ability the other none of his skills or ability. Why bother.
AJ went out and did what most of us expected Fury to do, only thing we learnt is that Fury even if he was injured it had a bad camp against Ngannou, is clearly on a sharp decline. AJ didn’t win last night, Fury lost.
Nothing new came out of this fight for me. AJ is still the 2nd best heavyweight in the world and Uysk is still number one. I'm more impressed when I think about how Joshua dominated Parker years back than what he did yesterday. If anything, Fury just looks like an even bigger joke than what he did before thanks to AJ doing what Fury should have done.
The best outcome from the fight (congrats to AJ) is that this is finally the beginning of the end of these YouTuber / Crossover "fights".
Ngannou was a few points on one card from being linear HW champ. I learned that that title and WBC is kind of vacant nowadays.
Fury simply fought the wrong fight, he tried to bully Ngannou but he didn’t have the core strength or punching power to do so and it nearly cost him the fight. If he’d kept his distance and sticked and moved on the outside he would have outpointed him with ease. Joshua fought the right fight, he knew Ngannou was there to be hit as Fury was landing on Ngannou frequently but had no affect. Joshua wasn’t gun-shy and he was clearly eager to pull the trigger to test Ngannou’s chin early and much to most boxing fan’s appreciation Ngannou’s chin crumbled. I didn’t think Joshua’s power was going to be enough for a one shot ko and assumed he was going to stick and move and try to look for a late tko via accumulation. If Joshua had got flattened, every past heavyweight great’s legacy would have been seriously tarnished and the sports stock would have taken a major hit. Joshua did everyone associated with boxing a real favour which includes the professionals and fans alike. The fans will feel vindicated knowing they've backed the superior striking sport. What happened was the best result for the sport of boxing because a lot was on the line.
Just the last 3 year? So he was good when he was poped for PEDS and then lying about his mental stuffs? Or when he made Klitschko inactive for 1+ year? Or when waste AJ time for a good 1+ year ? Or wasting Usyk time for 2+ years and stale the HW division? He has always been s**** and bad for the sport.
I learned, once again, that I DKSAB. But seriously, styles make fights. I assumed the orthodoxy of AJ would equate to Ngannou having an easier time but instead, the raw execution, well-drilled basics and athletic counters were a step too far for Francis to deal with. Perhaps he was a shade off the pace having had a taste of the Saudi bankroll, but if he can't take the power nor deal with the foot and hand speed of AJ, then this fight plays out the same every time.
I haven't been a fan of Fury's since after Wilder 2. I was just giving a broad number. I thought all of the things I stated in the original post before the AJ fight. It played out exactly as I expected it to.
