Mature - old, what ever you want to call it. But where the winner was no longer a young guy. Right up there for me is the Duran win over Barkley. Didn't expect that at all. I really though Duran was never going to get another world class win.
Obviously Ali beating Foreman would probably be the benchmark for fame, & at least one of the better wins among allegedly past it guys who upset the apple cart. Foreman himself on that list vs Moorer. Here’s one I enjoyed that was a surprise…Nate Campbell taking Juan Diaz’s ‘0.’
Hagler vs Mugabi.... Hearns vs Hill Arguello vs B.Costello Duran vs Moore and Barkley Marvin Johnson vs Leslie Stewart Many , Many others.....
Briggs beating Liakovich for the WBO belt Randall Bailey winning a title in 2012 against unbeaten Mike Jones Manning Galloway who turned pro in the 70s beating silver medal american prospect Ricardo Williams Jr. In 2005!
Frankie Duarte beating Alberto Davila Any of Zarate's comeback fights in the late 80's Bobby Chacon over Boza Edwards
Flash, regarding Hagler-Mugabi - is that one where the winner was seen as past it before or after the fight? I think all the others the winner would have been perceived as past it going into the fight and then sprung a surprise or performed above expectations, whereas maybe with Hagler it was only during the fight and in the aftermath that people started questioning if Marvin was slipping. Fair assessment or do you have a different view of it?
