A strong chin doesn't get you anywhere.....but a week chin doesn't help you much either. Basically, I agree that Margo would probably get his ears boxed off (just like the rest of them) but at least he'd have a shot if he connected. I don't think very much of Clottey and Willaims and SLR would be a lot for Cotto to handle (although I'll admit I would have to think about the Cotto SLR match abit more interms of competitiveness but competitive or not Cotto would still have no chance of winning). So basically, my logic is that they'd all have pretty much no chance and the only reason margo would have a better chance then no chance is because of Hearns' weak chin and Margo's punching power.
Margo's punching is sloppy and takes accumulation to really do its work, he doesn't have the 1 punch power to get the job done and he wouldn't box well enough to get the accumulation damage done.
HE might not. My opinnion would he based on the idea that he does have at least good enough power to do something if he lands a clea one. And past that the rest would be chance. As I've stated above my opinion is more based on the rest having maybe the ability to make the match ups more competitive but having less of a chance of actually winning.
Sturm was too high up and he was facing a bigger jabber with a bigger reach, though he himself was nowhere near as good as Hearns. Though obviously Oscar would be better at WW as well. Based on what? He was dropped and rocked by Oscar, by Lopez, by Verno Phillips I believe, by Espana in an earlier bout. Not dropped, but rocked or hurt at times. He never faced punchers like Barkley or Hagler at higher weights. So why does Hearns have a shaky chin for losing to them but Quartey doesn't for being hurt by lesser and smaller fighters? I disagree. It took countless shots from Hagler and Leonard to put him away, and there is no way in hell Oscar hits as hard as the huge MW Barkley. So your plan for DLH is to play possum, get his ass whooped but not KO'd, and catch Hearns coming in at some random point? You think Oscar would follow that plan and that's the way it would go? Fair enough. I give it a lesser chance of happening, but oh well.
How do you feel a WW like Williams would survive the full 12 with MW Hagler? Hagler faced far better MW's than Williams(who has yet to even prove himself there at all) and took out a far better WW in Hearns in 3 rounds. I don't get it. Unless you're assuming Hagler kills himself to get to WW.
yeah I agree he'd have to really tire the chrap out of Hearns before he'd land anything clean enough/effective to get the job done. I wouldn't bet on it but I can see it happening. You should understand though that not all of Margo's punches are sloppy. He is pretty good at mixing in some really good onees in between the tons of of sloppy punshes. Thats one fo the things that makes him deceptively affective. I mean clearly he'd have to fight a super fight to land enough of these good shots to creat an acumulation of damage. But stranger things have happened.
Don't forget you are arguing with apes who think Margarito is as wild as Mayorga. They can't even tell what's going on in front of their faces let alone understand the sport. Hearns was a glass cannon. If his power had no affect on Margarito he'd be ****ed.
No, because then he could just rely on boxing. And the chances of his power being ineffective are about as likely as the chances of Margarito outboxing Hearns from range. Daniel Santos is rocking him but Hearns can't? You guys seem to underrate Hearns's chin because he was KO'd by big hitting MW's and a big hitting WW(which was a TKO in the 14th round). Otherwise he took some very good shots, and quite consistently, in his fights.
You have nothing to show me that Santos actually made anything happen from that 2 second scare he gave Margarito. First off it was a shot high on the head that wobbled Margarito, it wasn't on the chin. Secondly Margarito had his legs back in less than 3 seconds. I wouldn't call that anything weak. Santos at 154 is a very underrated puncher. I think he proved that by knocking Alcine out with one punch. Hearns would undoubtably hit Margarito because he was fast and very sharp with his right hand. However Margarito's chin is out of this world and if Hearns could not crack it he'd be in a world of trouble. Once Margarito feels comfortable with his opponent's power he walks them down. And Hearns was no defensive wizard and nor was his stamina all that great when forced into a brawl. He'd been hit flush by a wild Lujan/Mayorga type like Roldan. You gotta realize Margarito is sharper than the likes of those two.
I think there is a pretty decent chance Margo handles Hearns' power fairly well. Thats not like he doesn't get hurt. But probably wouldn't be close to being stopped. I doubt I'm underestimating Hearns' chin. THat "big hitting welterwieght" was decently powerful he wasn't a moster hitter like you suggest. And as I remember it the punch that got hearns in trouble was one of the few clean punches that got hit with. And the few other times he did get hit clean in that fight (which wasn't too often) he looked pretty shaky. Also Margo's got pretty dam good power himself. He'd defintely have the ability to hurt Hearns. The likely hood of him applying effective enough pressure to do so is more where the arguement lies. Also this whole in the 14th round thing is a point but a fifteen round fight would def give margo a better chance too. Even if it turns out to merly prolong his beating it gives him more opportunity to cut herns down and catch him.
