I had it 7-5 in rounds to Clarke, but with the deduction - which I thought was harsh and the knockdown 113-113 is a fair result, but could see a close decision either way for either fighter.
Wardley seems to be getting a disproportionate amount of credit for showing heart and swinging away despite his facial injuries. No doubt he fought very courageously, but that ain't part of boxing's scoring criteria. Round five aside, the clean punching and effective aggression was generally being done by Clarke. He was more accurate, more consistent and landed a better variety of shots too. The jab wasn't really a factor for either man after the fourth round, but in those rounds when it was Clarke bossed that element, too. I can live with a draw, just about, given the deduction and knockdown. But it's a draw which is kinder to Wardley than it is Clarke in my opinion. If there was a winner it should have been Clarke.
I found it a very difficult fight to score. Lots of the rounds could have gone either way depending on what you were looking for. Wardley was doing the eye catching damage, and generally being the aggressor, while Clarke was controlling more portions of the fight and catching Wardley with the cleaner work at range and on the counter. I'm actually perfectly fine with a draw in this case, though if I had to pick one man to win it it'd be Wardley.
Clarke won 114-112. He landed the crisper and more accurate punches as evidenced by the mess that was Wardleys face. The bogus deduction for the low blow cost Clarke the win. Wardley was wild and wide with his punches, and his aggressive spurts looked good which impressed some people but Clarke was the better fighter.
Both showed poor footwork, it looked like Frazier`s feet were stuck to the floor, both have really slow feet, I`d say a draw.
A draw was fine by me, as I believe the ref should of deducted Wardley a point also after warning him multiple times about the backhand to the point the ref stopped warning him when he did it again. Great fight from them both I doubt either will become World beaters though
Good heart on display but poor technique and and poor condition really but probably about right for the level of the fighters, I didn’t enjoy it as much as most.
When I stop scoring fights round by round it's usually because I can't be bothered and I just want to enjoy the fight but I usually have an idea who I feel won the fight come the final bell. However, with this one I was so absorbed in the action, the ebbs and flows, and the suspense I completely forget about scoring it altogether and I didn't have an inkling as to which of them won at the end.
I scored it for Clarke. It was pretty clear he is the more skilled better boxer with jab and fundamentals however Wardley is a tough boy because he took a beating but was there all night. Oth come out with credit.
Caught the replay Monday on Peacock. I didn't know the result beforehand. Excellent heavyweight fight. Really good. Very exciting. I thought Frazer won the actual fight, in all honesty. But the point deduction due to the low blows and the knockdown easily made it the draw it was. I have no problem with the result. But, physically, Wardley got his ass handed to him. Clarke just beat him up. (My youngest daughter said Fabio had a Voldemort nose by the end. Just smashed flat.) I'd love to see it again, though.
