Terry Marsh World Champion Documentary (1980's) A Close Look At The UK's "Fighting Fireman"

Marsh´s victory over Manley was such a thrilling victory. Though the win wasn´t unexpected as such but not the way Terry did it by

outpunching him in such an aggressive way and stopping him.

Warren did a stellar job in promoting Marsh, turned an average punching boxer in a unglamorous division into British, European and finally

World champion and a household name in the space of less than 3 years.

Brilliant night vesus Manley (a decent fighter who finished Howard Davis as a top flight figher and koed the tricky Gary Hinton which the great

Aaron Pryor didn´t even come close to doing) and the 1st defense had it´s moments too but what happened after is still shocking.

Still cannot believe that a film hasn´t been done of the whole thing, can only imagine Warren has stopped it at some level.

Would be a fascinating watch.

i think he is more of a household name for what he allegedly didnt do than his world champion status.

 

Funny enough as someone old enough to remember watching him live on TV, he was actually a well known name in the UK.

The era of few terrestrial TV channels, radio and newspapers.

Big fights were often back page news with the first two inside pages also doing build up's, tale of the tape's etc. Not just domestic action but all the splintered HW title fights and the big USA fights of the 80's, Hagler, SRL, Hearns, Duran etc.

Marsh was often on the TV chat shows like Wogan which were prime time BBC1, being a 'fighting fireman' made for good copy and he did well TV appearances etc. Very articulate with a high IQ, very accomplished chess player also IIRC!
