Rocky Marciano vs Michael Spinks

Spinks has success early on, but I feel like he’s gonna be walked down and out slugged eventually. Rocky by late stoppage or decision

 

Explain that in explicit detail. Give me actual technical reasons.

 

As I’ve said before, anyone who wants to go after Marciano based on competition faced had better not be heard praising Holmes as, “under-rated” or an ATG to me.

The issue with Rockys competition is their size and their age not the fighters being in any way bad.

 

I do not agree - Marciano would probably be stopped around the fifth round, but we are not gonna' argue whether Marciano gets stopped in two rounds. I give Marciano no chance vs. a 200 - 205 pound prime Spinks. No chance in hell.

 

Ehm, Marciano around Spinks' size, Sir?? Marciano was 5 feet 10 inches (or shorter) with a 67 inch reach. M. Spinks was 6' 2'½', a reach on 76'' and as a heavyweight 200 to 209 pounds if I am not mistakin'. Are you claiming they had the same size??

Spinks fought in the same style as a few other top fighters like Tunney, Billy Conn, Roland LaStarza amongst others....he is a handful for any historical heavyweight to include Marciano. The Rock was only similar to Tyson in height unlike the Rock Tyson was lightening fast on his feet and the fastest combination puncher in heavyweight history and not to mention 220lbs.....I see Spinks giving the Rock fits...the only real chance the Rock has to win here IMO is if Spinks thought he had to fight to win like he did with Cooney, Cooney was a fairly fast devastating puncher that had he not been away for so long drinking and doing drugs would have wrecked him. Rocky is not fast enough to catch Spinks and force a fight and Spinks is unwilling to stand and fight. I like Spinks to pull off the upset

 

Compelling fight. Mike has the skill to give the Rock fits. But Rocky wears him down and stops him in 12 in an absolute barnburner.

 

If the top contenders in a given era are smaller older men, then it is because they have established their superiority over the bigger younger men around.

Simply can't be otherwise.
