So who are the fighters that are well known for a loss, maybe more than a win?
For example, Johnny Owen with his tragic fight.
Jess Willard for his drumming by Dempsey.

Billy Conn, despite been a pretty good lightheavy, his loss to Louis over shadows that.

The greatest fighter who is mostly known for a loss is probably Michael Spinks. Maybe Duran too, depending on whether or not people think of No Mas more than the Brawl in Montreal.

Arguello's controversial loss against Pryor seems more talked about than his stellar 3 weight class conquest.

I think the lasting memory people have of Simon Brown is him on his back, out cold, punching into the air courtesy of a Pettway left hook. He was an excellent fighter who had a very good career IMO.

    Yes quite right.
I enjoyed the welter s back in the 80 s and Brown was one of my favourite s. That was a bad loss for him.

Esteban De Jesus is mostly remembered for being the first man to beat Roberto Duran, but also known for getting beat by Duran twice.

Donovan Razor Ruddick. At one point his high level as a Heavyweight (in the minds of many) was based solely on him losing wars to Mike Tyson.

    Then along came Lennox Lewis.

Sonny and Spinks in particular, it's so unfair too. Considering Spinks was actually one of the (IMO) 5 greatest LHW's ever and Sonny is who I still think of first when I think "HW monster".

Alan Minter getting his face sliced up by Hagler. No one really talks much about his wins (at least in the US) and he beat the man that held Hagler to a draw (Hagler really won )

Randal Tex Cobb, the man who retired Howard Cosell with his loss against Larry Holmes.
