Folks, I'm seeing the term "weight bully" thrown around a lot. Yes, Haney is technically abiding the rules of the fight, but he's also in an A-side position to request that the official weigh in occur Friday MORNING. This gives almost 40 hours before the fight to rehydrate and changes the entire function of a weigh in.

The fact is, Haney has at least 10lbs on everyone fight night. That's because his teams strategy is to push the draining/rehydrating with who knows what, to the absolute extreme at the cost of his own health. It was ****ing weird when Chavez Jr. did it, and it's ****ing weird when Haney does it. The game becomes "either I push the cut too far and am a zombie, OR I push the cut just enough and am 10lbs up and hug you to death". Boxing fans aren't excited about that gamble, but some fanboys love the idea of winning such an advantage. I think it's possible they pushed it too far and he finally paid the price.

Haney is only slightly smaller than Marvin Hagler. He has had two fights at 140 and looks like a meth addicted ghost at the CEREMONIAL weigh in (after 10 hours of doing who knows what to regenerate). He needs to move to 147 and work on his defense. These cuts are clearly sapping his already less than stellar punch resistance. If he fights at 140 against another guy who can punch he'll get decapitated.

Got embarrassed by a guy way smaller than him in Loma but gifted a decision. And now got whooped by a drunk off balance full time social media influencer who was outta shape.

Wasn’t haney’s dad talking about killing Ryan too?? Yeah devin really isn’t anything close to what he tries to make himself out to be. Glad Ryan took out the trash.

He didn’t get embarrassed by Loma. That was a close fight that I had Loma just slightly edging. Ryan clearly beat Haney and that was embarrassing but also embarrassing for Loma that he couldn’t beat Haney decisively.

Lomas age and size makes it pretty embarassing.

Why is it embarrassing? Because you’re a Loma fan? Haney made the weight and fought within the rules. In terms of age he was what 34? Floyd and Pac were dominating dudes bigger than them at 34. I get it, you’re a Loma fan and when Teo whooped Loma and Loma didn’t get the decision in a close competitive fight it upset you.

    Maybe.

Or maybe the cuts aren't damaging him as much as they would to most other fighters and he doesn't want to go to 147 because his punch resistance would be exposed even more there?

Unless he goes up, we won't know.

I'd personally like to see rehydration limited with enforced moves up the categories when fighters are clearly cutting too much - but I don't think it'll happen.

I agree with you in regards to Haney Loma. I had no problem with Haney gettin that decision, and agree it was a close fight, certainly arguably for Loma but not a robbery by any stretch of the imagination.

Hahah riiiight. Loma won that fight with room to spare and you know it. You don't got to lie to kick it.

It wasn’t a dominant performance by any means. A great competitive chess match that Loma edged imo.

That's the main thing ellerbe. We can disagree with who we thought edged a close fight. (which I think is all I ever argued in regards to Canelo GGG 1) But when people start calling close fights a robbery, that's where we have a problem lol.

I mean I can see why people would call it that because best case I think I would have it a draw. But it wasn’t dominant by any means.

Haney's problems with power are all the more reason he was smart to burn down as much as he could, which is of course within the rules.

If you don't like the big weight cuts, change the rule.

I been saying for a minute that Haney has been on borrowed time. Once he had to fight guys his own size it's all over for him.

The rule should definitely not be that A-side fighters can officially weigh in 40 hours before the fight. This is new within the past decade. It wasn't long ago they would weigh in Friday afternoon/evening and immediately chug a protein shake the second they're off the scale.

If it's 40 hours, why not 48 hours, two full days before the weigh in? Why not a week before? The whole point of weigh ins is to prevent this type of ****. Weigh ins should be 24 hours before the fight, and if that were the case, Haney has to immediately go up to 147.
