Should he have stopped the fight early? Devin was getting beat pretty bad. Did he think that his son could win on points? When will Devin Haney return? In 3 months or maybe in a year from now? I think Haney needs to take some time off and assess whether his Dad is the correct coach for him.
Bill is useless and I wonder if it was him that taught Devin to hold so much, it was pathetic, I saw footage of Devin working the heavybag and his feet weren`t planted, his feet are never planted when he punches which is why Devin has no power, Bill obviously doesn`t know this and has very little boxing knowlege, Devin needs a new coach immediatley.
Should he have stopped the fight early? No. The fight only really got away from him after the 3rd knockdown which came in the 11th round I think. Had Haney not been dropped and won the 11th and the 12th would've panned out the same with Garcia basically giving it away then...... When will Devin Haney return? Probably not until early next year tbh, going for Feb 2025. Doubt it'll ever happen but I'd like to see Haney move away from his father and trained up by one of the Brits.
His jaw was reported to be broken That is 6 weeks of wired shut sipping through a straw, I’d say 1 year is good. why waste breath on Bill Haney? We should be praising Derrick James & his glorious comeback!
If not for the KDs in 10 and 11, Haney may well have gotten the decision victory. At no point was a corner stoppage warranted as Devin did not take sustained punishment. Bill has done a good job with his son, both as a trainer and as a promoter/spokesperson for his son, who, IMO, clearly lacks self confidence. Devin just isn't an ATG level talent and that's okay. Not everyone is Floyd Mayweather. I don't understand why people love the idea breaking up a father-son duo, which is a lifelong bond that will extend beyond Devin's boxing career. For more belts?
I agree with some of what you wrote but you don't have to work with your dad to have a good bond. If Devin is lacking confidence it might be good for him to have some independence.
Okay. Buster and his dad legitimately did not get along with each other, though. This seems to be an entirely different dynamic at play... ... But Bill may indeed be too alpha for his somewhat fragile son.
Another father that is desperately live through his son. He talks so much crap to the opponent you’d think he was fighting them.
As for Haney, he needs a real trainer. "I need that brick on him" sounded an awful lot like "Double the ****ing jab!" Bill clearly was out of ideas.
