Floyd Patterson said Rocky couldn't fight

Why is everyone talking about a knockout like it's a foregone conclusion that Marciano would easily stop Patterson? Why can't Patterson hurt or stop Marciano? He's multitudes faster, sharper, more refined and a fantastic puncher in his own right.

Marciano was teak tough and didn't stop coming, but he wasn't a indestructible force like a Marcos Villasana that couldn't even be buzzed. Moore, Charles and Walcott all seriously hurt or in Ezzard's case almost had Rocky out of there on facial damage.

They fight three or four times and I bet one of them it's Patterson stopping Marciano.

 

That's probably it. Sometimes it's best just to let a fighter fight the way they feel comfortable, as Rock s trainer more or less did.

 

Peak vs peak Marciano takes Floyd every single solitary time although Floyd gives a good account of himself. I say that being a huge fan of Patterson and not much of a fan of Marciano although I have come to respect him enormously.

A match where Rocky comes out of retirement in his dotage (at least for a boxer) and after having been through close to 50 wars to take on the young Patterson? There’s a very good chance IMO that doesn’t go like most people here think it would go.

 

Hmm? Moore ,Charles and Walcott were all past their prime when Rocky beat them. A prime Floyd Patterson would in my opinion be the best fighter Rocky would have fought and if a on the slide Ezzard Charles could go the distance so could Floyd. I agree ,Rock would be the favorite but this is a fight Patterson could take.

Again, a ancient Archie Moore hurt Rocky BAD. Why can't Floyd do the same?

 

Are you tired of hearing my opinions on Rocky? Well, we don't know how good Rocky really was, because he never beat a ranked, young, relatively big, strong, skilled heavyweight. Put Rocky in his prime in the ring with respectively a Razor Ruddock, with the Lyle that fought Foreman, with a Thomas or with a Joe Frazier, and Marciano loses to all of them and in a brutal way. Rocky was very effective - in beating up very small, old, past the prime heavyweights/old lightheavyweights. I like and respect Rocky, but, please, don't make him to something he clearly wasn't.

 

I can see Patterson winning one in a trilogy.

He definitely has more of a chance than people want to admit.

He would be far and away the best fighter Marciano faced (yes he was better than the versions of Charles, Walcott, and Moore that Marciano faced and especially better than a shot Joe Louis).

 

Over 12 I would gladly put money down on Patterson over Marciano if I could get dog odds. 15 is a hairier proposition but could still be done, and anyone that think Floyd isn't live for a knockout with his own fantastic power is lying to themselves.

Because I see him as third rate and small... A small likeable old man beater, and thats it.
