Wow, the speed and skill on display here would be a sight to behold.

    60/40 in favour Charles, imo.

These 2 were about as good as it gets, relative to their respective sizes.

This would be a good one, while Charles is the greater overall fighter I might take a prime Patterson to squeak out a close decision. Ezzard just isn't really a heavyweight

Ezzard Charles was heavyweight champion of the world, just like Patterson. With 9 title defenses. Charles at his peak or close to it could beat everyone Patterson beat and beat a better, younger version of Archie Moore.

This fight is one in which I just cannot pick a winner. I guess I'll go with Charles via decision

In a 3 fight series, I expect them both to lose one to the other. Who would win the 3rd fight, God only knows.

Close, yes. Either man might win a trilogy. In a one-off, I’ll take Charles by competitive decision. That left hook Patterson has looms large though in light of what Walcott did with a single punch - but that was also an isolated thing for Charles.

Patterson in 1960 beats any version of Charles. But 1949-51 Charles vs 1956-59 Patterson would be a pick-em.

Ezzard Charles at 175lbs was one of the greatest fighters of all time and the “Cincinnati Cobra” would definitely to me beat Floyd Patterson.

Plus....he gave Marciano such a good fight the first time that the Spanish version of Ring Magazine claimed it was a robbery.

And bloodied Marciano's nose the second time...

Nobody is disputing that Charles was a great light heavyweight. I think Patterson was a better heavyweight, and his career ended much better. He managed his career more wisely. Skill wise, Charles might have been the superior boxer but he lacked Patterson's popularity and flair.

Charles would beat him and I don't think that it would be all that hard of a fight. Charles beat the better competition- it isn't even close- and was better at everything than was Patterson.

I think the best version of Floyd Patterson beats the best version of Ezzard Charles most times.

It would have been a great fight.

Patterson could probably KO Charles if he caught him clean. But prime Charles wasn't easy to catch clean. On the other hand, Charles could drop Patterson, but I don't know about keeping him down. This is one of the hardest to pick for me.
