Here are highlights. Love the tripling, even quadrupling of the left hook in rapid succession. I always thought it was a shame there wasn't the safe haven of 122 for a struggling Olivares available in his own time, and instead of ended up at featherweight against giants like Arguello.

A thought... Olivares weighed in at 112 pounds several times coming up. What would title fights looked like at 112? Imagine Ruben holding titles at 112, 115, 118, 122, 126... I have no doubt he could do such a thing if he maintained anything approaching the form he showed around this period in time. A phenomenal talent and IMO one of the greatest living fighters alongside Duran.

Lionel Rose was a good fighter. Olivares was brilliant that night, completedy destroyed him. Superb.

Arguably his best win over Alan Rudkin which annoying there seems to be no footage of:(

My favourite Olivares performances apart from Rose are: Jesus Pimentel, Chacon I+2 and the 1st 12 rounds against Arguello!

    Great fighter.

One wonders what Olivares could of done without the holy trinity of distractions.... Babes, booze and pot.

It's up there with one of the best showings in BW especially when we're talking about the level of the opponent that was beaten. Olivares looked sensational when he took apart a fine boxer like Lionel Rose who had just dethroned Fighting Harada a year prior. Truly a monster at BW when he was focused and dedicated.

Fighting Harada beating Eder Jofre the first time rivals that.

Lionel Rose was excellent in my eyes one of the best ever. Ruben Olivares just knocked him into the ground and considering the level of these two it’s an impressively one sided performance between two greats.

Sometimes I wonder if the high life of enjoyment keeps them strong in a way, you don’t want to the good times to stop so you handle your business. Folks talk about how it takes away the hunger, once you tasted the good life I’d think some would find a way to get up to keep the party going. Carlos Monzon was hopelessly sloppy I’ve read a drinker, smoker who regularly partied till the sun came back up but he would get into shape when he needed to and be a professional. Roberto Duran was an everyday drinker even as the 135lbs champion.

Yeah, it's my favourite bantamweight performance so far as that goes. Some of what you see in Castillo-Olivares is direclty comparable but there's something about the way Olivares just takes this away that is special.

I'd say 19 year old Lionel's win over Harada also stands out as a great title winning performance, a masterclass.
