Let's say the Coatzee that beat Mike Dokes against the Norton that beat Quarry and went 15 rounds with Ali. How would this fight go? This is a tough one. Norton had problems against punchers and Gerrie had that bionic right hand but would Norton's overall better skills win out? Hard to say. I'll throw this out there and see where it lands.
Norton UD. Coetzee could punch but he wasn't on the level of Foreman or Shavers. Coetzee also had poor stamina while Norton got stronger in the later rounds, so I can't see Gerrie winning this one.
Norton succeeds same as Hercules Weaver. I think his body attack would sap Coetzee before round 10 rolled around and Kenny would beat Gerrie up pretty good down the stretch.
This is a good old fashioned punch up for me. I think Gerrie has a good shot here, he had a good solid right, could be effective here. He also had a decent chin on him. He could pull off the upset but the longer it goes the more chance Kenny stops him.
If Coetzee comes in hot he could absolutely win this. He had great timing and a heck of a punch to go with it so if he got off to a fast start there's no reason why he couldn't put Norton away. That said: he usually didn't start terribly fast and liked to box and time his openings. Not sure how well it would work out down the stretch since Norton was a good boxer himself with probably a better all round skillset. Honestly one of South Africa's other heavies that started fast like Du Plooy or Sanders would do better.
Dangerous fight for Norton whilst Coetzee isn't quite on the same level as Cooney, Shavers, Foreman, in regards to power. He still hits with plenty of authority and his right hand could have Norton in serious trouble. Honestly this is a pick em fight Coetzee could well finish Norton in the first 6 rounds, but if Norton can come out of the 1st half of the fight unscathed then i fancy Norton to stop Coetzee late on who's stamina was suspect.
