Does anyone think that Pacquiao has a shot against De la hoya?

My pick for Pac is mainly based on his frequent activity, also his steady progression. He hasnt given me any doubts as to him carrying weight. Pac is no 1 or 2 fight a year champ either, he's active, carries his speed and power up in weight with him.
Again DLH is bigger but when was the last time his punches hurt someone? When was the last time DLH fought someone with a remotely similar style as Pac? When was the last time DLH showed any kind of killer instinct in a highly competitive fight?
Pac's camp is right DLH just doesnt pull the trigger anymore, instead theres hesitation and tentativeness, which is not good fighting Pacquiao

 

We all know how pac fights, not really a good style imo to beat oscar especially those awkward punches..i don't know whats up with his team but i hope freddie has been working on it. pac is not a defensive minded fighter so it really is scary just to think he would be in the same ring as oscar

 

Thats somewhat my point. I don't think DLH at this stage of the game can deal with Pac's pressure, which by the way is unworldly. Why are people acting like DLH punches with the power of a gorilla? DLH is not a hard puncher(doesnt really follow through or punch with conviction anymore) Does Pac have a shitty chin? Did I miss something?

 

pac doesn't have a shitty chin in his weight range but what we're talking about is a guy 3 divisions from his current weight which he just recently moved to which somehow makes that 4 divisions plus the guy weighs as a middleweight during fight night.

Sure dlh is really not that of a hard puncher but he still has a lot of power 30 KOs out of 39 wins. If pac has a defense like forbes(which also has a good chin himself) i would favor him to go the distance..

pac in his last fights seems has left that pressure and is fighting smart fights , he is becoming more of a good boxer and that was evident against diaz, the last time i saw him with his relentless whirlwind attack style was against morales in their last fight.

 

Sorry off topic - who was ODLH opponent prior to forbes? I'll check it out and see how much ODLH has in his gas tank.

Here's how I see the fight playing out.

Oscar bullies Pac around for 7-8 rounds, spinning him into corners and launching Calzaghesque slap sessions to make himself look good. Then in the 8th or 9th round, he'll succumb to a seemingly harmless left uppercut and struggle to get to his feet. Up at 8, Oscar stumbles to the canvas and PacMania ensues. Later that week, Manny Pacquiao signs on with Golden Boy for his last two fights. One against Ricky Hatton and another against Floyd Mayweather. And the winner is...OSCAR DE LA HOYA!!! (financially) Sound familiar?

 

Pac will win this one!ODLH is old and have no more power left in his arsenal.

 

If Pac's chin can handle Oscar's power, Pac has 50-50 chance of winning. Otherwise, Pac need to box smart; though not his style but I beleive he has the tool to do this.

pac always gets underrated though even against fellow superfeatherweights and lightweights.

 

its cuz they wanna see him lose badly.

 

it's because of his style, he isn't a sweet boxer and may not even be called a solid boxer in terms of textbook fundamentals. so when people match him up with fellow 130 and 135 fighters, pac doesn't look good in paper. there's always an "unskilled" argument against him. an opponent with a good jab or footwork, or pressure always wins against pac in online analysis.
i think this is mainly because most analyses rely on textbook skills too and does not account well with intangibles and unorthodox fighting styles.

on the other hand, guys like PBF and guzman who are sweet boxers almost always win in fight analysis. even against bigger and stronger fighters who have solid fundamentals. How? because of the cliche arguments "he can potshot his way to victory," "he's too fast and too hard to catch," he's gonna duck all his punches even if the opponent throws a thousand of them," etc.
even in terms where the opponent has a lot of advantages, the argument for these sweet boxers would go like "damn my boy is too intelligent in the ring, he would find a way to neutralize his opponents skills," you know my fighter uses his brain, he would have taken account of his opponent's advantage befor he enters the ring, my boy won't lose."
I've even heard serious arguments saying PBF could beat a legit heavyweight or even pavlik for the middleweight title.

 

Pac better be extra fast to pull this one out!
