Grant was seen as the next great heavyweight champ..while Spinks was viewed as very good light heavy.

Grant was seen as "potentially" a very good Heavyweight, Spinks was viewed as an ATG Light Heavy, albeit who had seen better days.

He may have been seen as the next great thing but Grant was just a decent, big heavyweight.
Spinks, had beaten the lineal champ twice, was previously a great lightheavy, not just good.

    No contest.. Spinks

I'd say Spinks even though he was a blown up lightheavy. He was the real deal. Grant had high expectations but never lived up to them. After getting floored twice by Golota I knew he was dead meat against Lewis, and Lewis blowing him out in 2 rounds didn't surprise me at all. Grant's career never really recovered after.

Tyson over Spinks because of the quality of Spinks. Grant was not ready for Lewis. Spinks was ready for Tyson but in retrospect he was intimidated by the power of a hard hitting and fast punching heavyweight.

Tyson with Spinks. Lewis is not even close in any fight. Maybe Rahman II due to the circumstances.

Spinks. Hands down. He was so good he was a LHW who had taken the HW lineage off the hands of a dominant champ, then beat him again in a rematch.

Tyson/Spinks by far. There were people calling Spinks the "real" champion and then 90 seconds later...................his career was completely over. No rematch, no nothing. And the vast majority of the casual public don't remember anything about Spinks other than 90 seconds. They don't remember he was very likely one of the 3 best LHW's in history, they don't remember he gave Larry Holmes his first and 2nd loss (no matter how disputed), they only remember 90 seconds, flat on his back with Tyson looking down at him. That ko ruined legacy (unfairly but yea)

Lennox destroyed Grant, and Grant kept going for years after that with some success and some failures, but right before Lennox Grant had showed frailty, he was losing to Golota but because it was Golota self destructing he survived. He damn near didn't even make it to Lennox.

Neither the impressiveness nor the fallout after were similar or close IMO

Yeah definitely Tyson vs Spinks. A Heavyweight ATG blasting out a Lt Heavy ATG and P4P great is some achievement.

Grant had size and a respectable record but he was relatively unproven. His limitations were displayed for all by a nasty Lewis.

Tyson-Spinks has aged like fine wine. Lewis-Grant more like milk.

Before my time but checking back it’s hard to believe now but there were actually quite a few top boxing figures including Ali an Leonard an also boxing writers that thought that Spinks would win. Spinks trainer Futch was convinced that Spinks would win an went into details on how he would do it. I guess Futch was just doing his job since he couldn’t come out an say that his fighter would get demolished ha ha

Tyson/Spinks more impressive. Although at the time I thought that Tyson would steamroll over him quickly so the result was not shocking.

Grant was exposed right before the Lewis fight when he fought Golota.

I’ll take Lewis KO Rahman over both.

    Sensational.
