I think age has catched up with Usyk. He is 37. He looked much faster in the 1st Joshua fight. Usyk is already past of his prime. He still managed to beat Fury, but he is declining now.
After the fight he was recovered into the hospital. Suspect jaw fracture. He made the impossible last night...better than Ali with Norton when he broke Alis jaw.
Nearly 38 and relies on a style which is better suited to a younger fighter. He was noticeably slower in the Dubois fight which was nearly a year ago now.
A lot of that had to do with the investment to the body that Fury made. Usyk did not like the body shots Tyson was landing on him, and it definitely discouraged Usyk and slowed him down. But the proud Ukrainian kept pushing forward looking for his opportunity to turn the fight around. And he did, he found another gear with some late success in the 7th round and then in the 8th round. I think what gave Usyk the confidence to have the kind of success he had in the 9th round was what happened in the last minute of the 8th round. He caught Fury straight in the nose and it caused blood. Fury was hurt in that 8th round and that gave Usyk the confidence to keep pressing and it led to what happened in the 9th. This was a storybook performance from Usyk. To look as outclassed as he did in rounds 4-6, to turn it all around, these moments are what boxing fans live for. It was a spectacular turn of events, a tale of two halves you could say, with Usyk the pride of Ukraine turning it all around against the Gypsy King in thrilling fashion. You gotta love it.
He’s a 37 year old in a speed/power/agility/endurance individual sport. Of course he’s at least some way past his best.
Finally someone with ana eyes. He is an old man now . He barely walk after the fight. He ia 37.5 and has decline huge time. And he was already past it in AJ1.
I agree...id retire off that personally, nothing left to prove...I might not be a massive fan of his style but it's impossible to argue with the guys achievements
He did look a little slower last night, but that may have been because he was against a man who is also a good mover. Still, got the job done. He’s done everything in the sport. Absolutely brilliant fighter
That's what I was getting at. Tyson landed a lot of big punches on Usyk, particular the body shots, which slowed Usyk down and discouraged him. But Usyk didn't give up, he kept marching forward until he found his opening. And that gave him a shot of adrenaline which propelled him to victory.
They've both lost a step.. Furys legs and punch resistance are waining and Usyk has definitely slowed.. not as sharp as he once was and was puffing a lot.. 37 tho.. its gunna happen..
