Loma definitely is, Loma has top 10 footwork of all time IMO regardless of weightclass. And his hand fencing is also beautiful
Bump. Usyk and Loma are equally skilled but what separates the two is Usyk’s tenacity, toughness, willingness to take risks, his ability to adapt and turning the tides back into his favor. Usyk really has that determination to win and overcome disadvantages. A really mentally strong fighter and it shows why he’s a more capable H2H fighter than Loma despite being less gifted.
Loma.. more to his arsenal, more dynamic .. the guys a maverick.. Usyk is very skillful also but more fundamentals based , he can't do what Loma does.. but I'd say the consensus is that most consider him to have the greater career.. the Lopez loss hurts Loma a bit, Haney was a robbery.. but that Lopez fight (even tho he had injury) took some sheen off.. huge fan of both tho
Because they can do everything better, from a technical standpoint. Faster, sharper combinations. More agility. Better counterpunching. Etc. Etc. Relative to eras, the smaller fighter will be able to so things that a heavyweight just can't do.
Usyk has a gear that Loma doesn't. Loma is mint, and he dominated the SFW division in a way that lit up boxing. He's a special talent. But Usyk is something else. Usyk has more to his game than Loma, a better mentality than Loma and has completed at a higher level than Loma. People criticise Lomas 3 losses due to the close cards and the fight night weights of his opponent. Usyk has given up 40 pounds against the best HW in the world and won. He's different.
But the general idea is that the size difference doesn't mean as much the bigger you get, it can't be measured to know for sure but it's always been looked at that way.
Loma is by far Bigger guys don't have the same skills, footwork, reflexes and speed as smaller guys. It's just common logic. Otherwise elephants would be claiming trees.
Usyk's accomplishments speak for themselves. Undisputed in 2 weight classes. If Loma was more skilled he'd have a better resume than Usyk, he's had plenty of opportunities.
Usyk. He's the more complete fighter... higher fight IQ too. Look at how Usyk deal with much bigger men and look at how Loma deal with slightly bigger men. Usyk beat both AJ & Fury and he did it with skills & intelligence. Loma lost to Lopez because he was afraid of his power early allowed the bigger man to take an early lead that he couldn't recover from. While Loma is flashy and skillful, he is not as great as Usyk.
That makes no sense .. better resumes dont equal more skill.. Froch has a better resume than Calzaghe .. doesn't mean hes more skilled. Even Usyk would tell you Lomas better.. and actually thinking about it what makes you think it's so much better anyway? Lomas won titles in 3 divisions against more skillful operators than AJ , Gassiev, Fury & Breidis.. You ever seen a loma opponent get sparked by a LW/FW equivalent of Andy Ruiz or Donkey Wilder? I haven't.. Fury barely beat a wrestler last time out.. imagine a prime Linares getting turned over by a Diaz brother LMAO.. Usyk is Brilliant but Loma gets a bit too much heat lately.. dunno why.. its not his fault boxing is corrupt and America needed another Golden Child to replace Floyd.. he was never getting that decision but he should have .. his career reminds me of ODH in some ways.. resume probably doesn't quite do him justice.. as for your getting plenty of opportunities part.. he hasn't tho.. that's the problem.. the 'war' sidelined the Kambosos undisputed opportunity, the Davis' & Haneys of the world have only grown some balls since he turned the wrong side of 35 & the likes of Mikey Garcia etc chose money over fighting a prime Loma.. Loma is clearly more skilled. Anyone can see that, Usyk looked old last night, he struggled with the distance and was blowing a lot.. in fact I thought he looked quite average for the first half of that fight, deflated almost.. I've seen it over the last two or three fights with him now he's slowing down more .. whereas ageing Loma has still looked sensational recently.. Haney, Ortiz, Commey, Kambosos.. like I said before the thing that hurts Loma is the Lopez fight.. but a loss shouldn't detract from everything else.. Usyks never made 4 men in a row quit & ive never seen him use the angles that Loma does.. IMO Loma is the one inspiring Usyks style & brilliance, not the other way round..
Loma, and the comparison isn't even close. Regardless of how good Usyk, Fury, and AJ are for their weights, they are lumbering sloppy giants in comparison to Loma. Could you imagine Fury getting sized down to Loma's weight class? He would easily get outboxed with his sloppy awkward punching. Loma's foot work, combinations, defense are just miles ahead of Usyk. If Loma and Usyk were in the same weight class Loma would befuddle Usyk's text book boxing with constant side to side movement and speed. That is why the p4p mythos was created, to account for how much more skilled and difficult it is to win titles in the lower weight classes. Now as far as legacy, I'll rank Usyk higher for becoming undisputed in two weight classes.
