Over the years, we heard many Usyk detractors (who are incidentally almost always Fury fans—how curious) use tired old "arguments." Usyk not only became the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in some 24 years last night, but also busted several of these "arguments" or shall we call them what they really were: myths. From the top of my head, but please feel free to add more: Usyk is too small Apparently, not. Fury is too big, too strong for him Apparently, not. Usyk can’t punch Round 9 says hi. AJ is a big stiff idiot bodybuilder; beating him is irrelevant, Fury is different From Usyk's point of view he wasn't any different at all. He managed to win no more than 4 rounds against Usyk, just like Joshua. Fury will just lean on Usyk and tire him out He couldn't. Usyk simply didn't allow him. Fury will stop Usyk He tried and miserably failed. Usyk has a glass body Fury kept landing body shots; they didn't do much. Usyk pulls his trunks up too high Fury pulled his trunks up to his saggy tits last night; he looked even more ridiculous than usual. If Wilder couldn't KO Fury, Usyk definitely can't Once again, round 9 sends its regards. Fury is the number one HW of this era Clearly not. Fury is the lineal champion; Usyk can't do anything about it Apparently, he can. It's funny to see how the words "UNDEFEATED," "LINEAL," and "WBC CHAMPION" all disappeared from Fury's Instagram profile by this morning. It must have hurt him to update his profile like that. Good And speaking of UNDEFEATED... No man born from his mother can beat Fury Unless that man is called Oleksandr Usyk. Fury was never afraid of Usyk Of course he was. Fury is many things but stupid is not one of them. He has a very good boxing brain and knew Usyk was trouble and all wrong for him. He duly avoided him as long as he could. Don't mind the antics; Fury is actually a nice guy and he would surely give credit to Usyk should he lose to him Surely that's why he said he thought he'd won the fight and Usyk only got sympathy/pity votes from the judges because his home country is under invasion. Even if the unthinkable happens, Fury would be ready to jump back and do the rematch Frank Warren just confirmed he has no idea whether the rematch will happen. Colour me shocked. Of course, Fury knows the exact same thing would happen, or possibly even worse. Now Usyk knows what to expect, what to train for specifically, and now Fury is wary of Usyk's power—it was the 'middleweight midget' who hurt him the most in his entire career. The psychological dynamic between the two has changed forever; Fury is now the traumatised victim of the apex predator of this era. When Wilder hurt Fury in 2018, Fury knew it was his own carelessness and actually, Wilder is very beatable for him. There was no fear. This is different. Fury now knows he can't beat Usyk and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he retired for good this time, not wanting any more smoke. Just think about how badly he was hurt. His brain was scrambled. People didn't really catch that he shouted 'happy new year' in the microphone after the fight. Happy new year, in May? Since the original fight date was set for December last year, Usyk literally punched him back to 2023. The poor sod got such a terrible hiding that he thought it was still December. Of course he is even more terrified of Usyk now than he was before.
I have to say after 6 rounds I definitly thought it was the case. Thinking Usyk is too small, he cant get to Fury and is getting tagged with bodyshots, sneaky uppercuts. How is he going to turn this around? But he is so mentally strong that he doesnt get frustrated, hopeless or whatever. He just adapts and overcomes and switches into another gear. Credit to Fury as well, I thought he was gone after round 9. Needing to pull a khan vs maidana for 3 more rounds and was going to get stopped but he has great heart as well and kept going and arguably won round 12 as well.
