NBA had 8 to 14 teams back in Wilt's prime...It was not a physical era...Guy mostly faced very poor competition...He was a big fish in a small pond...
You're biased as hell, watch some Ken Norton or Patterson they had good defense, or do you need me to bring clips to expose your argument ? Even Eddie Machen from the 60s is disproving you
What a silly post lol so the lumbering giants today are less easier to hit than smaller more skillful fighters of the 70s WTF ? Imagine calling 70s Heavyweights plodders when you have someone like Zhang who is the definition of a plodder and Joyce who is one of the slowest Heavyweights in history.
No you're delusional and very biased I hate people who call other people biased when you come out with rubbish like this. "70s Heavyweights had no head movement" Please log off.
So much of the craft has been forgotten that people don't even know it ever existed and think they are watching technical mastery when a guy moves his head a little and displays good balance circling the ring. Tyson Fury did some very good things, but he was ultimately undone by his opponent figuring out that he should throw lead right hooks instead of the predictable 1-2s he had been throwing for 7 rounds. Right before Usyk adjusted, I had posted in the RBR that he had no lead right hook. That's a simple adjustment Ezzard Charles would have made by round 2. You can't just fight 20 times and be instinctive enough to deal with what the old school fighters brought.
Do you rank Fury and AJ above George Foreman? Usyk just proved that skill can overcome size. I think Usyk winning has helped Ali's legacy further. A few years ago people acted like AJ, Fury and Wilder were the next evolution of HW and their freaky proportions would beat any past smaller HW.
Yes, that's what I'm saying...Guys back then didn't even put their gloves up to defend themselves for the most part...There was very few exceptions...Majority of heavyweights defend themselves better now...take less damage.
Ali would beat Usyk may even stop him. He is the greatest for a reason. You really think Tyson Fury would last the distance against Ali. When Ali has you going he finishes you. Also Ali has the best chin in history alongside Hagler.
Show me 15 examples of World level heavyweights from the 70s not having their guard up the whole fight and having 0 defense the whole fight, Please
My guy Joyce got beaten to a pulp by Zhang because he has literally 0 defence. Parker landed almost 50 percent of his punches vs Zhang. Fury has been on the deck 8 times!!!!! twice in back to back fights. What you're saying is a fantasy. Ken Norton had a good defence against boxers and was excellent at parrying jabs hence that's why he was so successful vs Holmes, Ali. Jimmy Young is noted for his excellent defensive capabilities being able to slip punches. Patterson had very good head movement fighting out of the peek boo style.
This is the bad defense I'm talking about...it was rock em sock em robots...This how majority of top bouts looked...Fun to watch...but not even the most basic defense being used...
