The fighting man needs to stand his ground and fight, fight fire with fire and most importantly go for a stoppage as soon as he hurts Usyk.
Me too mate when i watched it live i had fury edging earlier rounds, on a rewatch i gave usyk 1-2. It was good competitive fight. Agreed dont back foot box him, stop his momentum, hit him in clinch, round back of head in the bollocks, if theres one weakness maybe he gets annoyed with any percieved breaking of rules. Thats tysons main chance
probably both, once he got in control a bit Fury probably thought it was business as usual, then as he did slow down a bit he didn't account for Usyk's Holyfield like ability to come back, I think Fury was a bit stunned by it. From being in control to nearly being on the deck, out of it. with all the showboating stuff as well, its like he is trying to convince himself this is a walk in the park. that kind of denial does no good at all in a fight like that...
Have a feeling fury may try to spoil the rematch and employ Klitschko style jab jab and hold and lean. Don’t think fury can keep Usyk off him long enough and doesn’t have the speed or one punch power to catch him flush. Can see fury try to grab when he gets in close and rabbit punching in the clinch and trying to not let Usyk work and slow him down that way. if I’m Usyk I’m doing the same thing again but working even harder on cardio.
good point, but going on the front foot could go side ways as well. All we can see from the evidence of the fight is that Fury had great success picking Usyk off with those uppercuts and body shots, controlling the distance, using his size. There was a point there I thought Usyk would get stopped soon. If he cant use those attributes throughout the fight I don't think he can do it, he might not even have to go the full 12 either if he is able to maintain it.
Work on his stamina so he has more gas down the stretch and just do what he did In the first 6 rounds. He can box with usyk he's proven that he just needs to plant his feet more and be the aggressor at times don't allow the little man to dominat the centre of the ring all the time. Usyk is going to do that but when fury lands that uppercut he needs to then impose his size rather than backing off
Holyfieldesque second wind probably isn't the best user of fighters who get a 2nd wind seeing as he was a drugs cheat, then again with that cross "kiss" who knows. In all seriousness though live I had it 5-3 fury going into the 9th and expected him to just pull away and spend the 11th and 12th just fighting off the back foot and clinching everytime uysk came near.....how wrong I was. I think the shock was not once did we see the aggressive fury or the switch hitting. It was more like a dosed up fury all week. For the rematch he needs to fight tall, switch things up from just throwing the uppercuts and to the body and throw the jab more. It's going to take an almighty effort and I'm not sure he's got it in him anymore. It's the punch resistance for me.....if it had been stopped in the 9th no one would complain. I'm friends with an ex boxer and I've seen him knocked out 3 times. Once falling off those bulls in benidorm, once falling down 2 steps and once banging the back of his head. He openly says his brain just switches off to make sure it doesn't get anymore damage if it's caught.
Fancied fury to beat usyk due mainly to the size difference etc. But watching the fight the problem fury has in terms of gameplan like all of them against usyk is....usyks gas tank is better. Both fury and usyk have freakish stamina tbf. Watching the first 2 rounds i thought fury would be done by round six because usyk had him working hard them first few rounds. You need to punch to keep usyk off you. He kind of stalks you and gets right back in your face after every encounter. Without having an answer for that fury can only really do more of the same next time. Usyk will counter off your punch with combinations if you try to back him up and his movements too good to chase. Either way you approach it fury will end up more tired than usyk. Fury put up a good fight tbh. With the lifestyle hes lived its testament to his talent that he,s still competetive. He showed enough in the fight to show its a possibility to beat usyk.....not sure anything other than doing what he done will give him anymore chance of success tho. Just needs to try to improve the fitness. Strength. Defensively tighter and push on if he hurts usyk. Even tho it will leave him vulnerable to usyk on the follow up. By the time that happens usyks already started draining you....and he has the pshycological edge that he can probably end up drowning you if you go for broke. Looks like its enough to keep opponents honest. Theres a reason both joshua and fury never went all in when they hurt usyk a bit.
1st, I wanted Usyk to win but like both fighters. Having said that, even when watching the fight live, I felt fury rocked Usyk a couple of times but never followed up aggressively. Lots of 1 punch and admire my work type of stuff. Personally, I think Fury gave him too much respect. I think if he stays in the middle of the ring and keeps his right hand up (it's okay to defend against the left hook for goodness sake) & maintains the jab throughout, he'll get some opportunities and then he has to go for it when they present themselves. He never followed up when Usyk looked shaken. I felt like Fury was afraid he was playing possum and never capatilized for fear of getting caught. Instead you let him walk you down & got caught anyway. By tasking no risk, he took all the risk IMO.
That seems fair to me. I just wonder if Tyson assumed he'd gas himself by going too fast too often, and just tried to pick the odd moment to win on the cards?
I agree - the broken nose in the 8th contributed too. The right man won but I had it close and Fury looked to have his number for a few rounds.
This content is protected Fury didn't capitalise here. Was it complacency as he thought he was cruising to a win? Or does he just not have the legs and stamina anymore to go in for the kill?
