Size doesn't matter if you are 223lbs and 6 ft 3in you are big enough to beat anyone. It would matter if you were 5ft 10 in and 185lbs!
I don't think most people understand this. Rocky Marciano was God. The rules that apply to everybody else didn't apply to him. Size doesn't matter. Sure weight classes mattered to everybody else but did you not just read what I said? Marciano was God. Marciano could knock out guys like Oliver McCall by just shaking his hand. Marciano trained harder than anybody else. Which is funny in 2 ways. Why would Marciano the God need to train and second how could you know who trained harder. Marciano couldn't be hurt. His chin was beyond time and space. Sure Marciano was dropped by the natural 160 pound Archie Moore and the natural 180-190 pound Jersey Joe Walcott. Sure the natural 170 pound Ted Lowry beat Marciano from pillar to post and could of stopped him whenever he chose too but let's not talk about that. Wait I just woke up and realize Marciano wasn't a God and his fanbase was just biased. Sonny Liston is hilariously overrated but he would knock out Marciano in a 1 round 2 tops. One guy was a heavyweight and the other guy weighed 180 pounds. Are you going to start making threads about who would win between Floyd Mayweather vs Marciano and still say size doesn't matter so Floyd would win
Yea i heard that marciano quit predominantly due to the intensity of his training. It makes sense, due to his boxing style he would need to be far better conditioned than his opponent. Also thanks for the compliment it means a lot knowing im starting to be accepted, always have a good time chatting with you. God bless brother.
Dude had me scared for a minute… also this whole thread is based off how ridiculous the matchup. Just wanted to see if anyone believes marciano beats liston(obviously he doesnt)
Marciano fought with his nose split open and bloody, Frazier fought blind and Max Baer fought with two broken hands so there' no excuse for qutting unless he had no heart. Oh it wasn't Liston but his corner man? Like he didn't know anything about that?
I missed this old chestnut. Marciano is down 30 pounds, 3 inches, is much less powerful, cuts easily, is an inferior boxer, has no speed advantage, but oh yeah, he's Rocky Marciano so he would find a way.
This question doesn’t deserve a response…I’ll just say ur right Mcvey. No fighters life was ever threatened by the mob. Or racists in the early days or individuals who placed bets and lost or crazy people who didn’t like their politics or whatever…ur right that stuff never ever happened to athletes.
Marciano would certainly stand a chance - if Liston died of a heart attach after 10 seconds in the first round.
Look, I like Marciano, but you have to look at the combination of size AND style! Marciano had a style that was suicide if he was to fight a much bigger talented 220 pounder. If Marciano was a totally different boxer with a style like Montell Griffin or Orlin Norris I would give him a slim chance. But that is just not the case! Marciano, though strong for his size, plodded forward and took a lot of punches coming in. Small old, totally shot Charles was competitive with a prime Marciano. Marciano maybe could have been competitive vs other former lightheavyweights or second rate cruiserweights, but vs fighters like Liston, Lyle, Berbick, Thomas, just forget it and call a priest.
My words, and not only Liston could do that - hundreds of big, hard punching heavyweights would have KO'ed Marciano. Just to small and the 'wrong' style so to speak.
