How much competition do you see for Fight of the Year in Boxing in general today, but especially at Heavy? In any case, this was a very old version of a not great fighter to begin with. I’m not calling the performance meritless or any nonsense like that, but it really isn’t some masterstroke, either.
For Fury to win he'd have to outbox George, like Ali did, but no way does Fury hurt George, unlike Ali. Foreman would eventually get to Fury's chin, then it's timberrrrr. And this time the Fighting Man isn't getting up.
The winning of the FOTY award was not the point, really. I'm not saying Wlad wasn't past his prime - of course he was - but you can't lean too heavily on Wlad's age as the cause for his Fury loss when more than a year later he was in a barnstormer, worthy of being considered a FOTY performance. And nothing Fury did would have pushed the typical pressure points made more sensitive by age anyway. For example, Fury didn't test Wlad's punch resistance, he didn't set a high-pressure pace or produce a high workrate. He simply did enough to stop Wlad from initiating any type of meaningful assault. Fair enough. But, whatever one thinks of Wlad (and I'm a critic), absolutely no one did to him what Fury did, or even came close, in a bout going any significant distance.
I gotta go with Fury. Usyk had a lot more speed and stamina than Foreman. Fury would be able to survive the early part of the fight and then win a decision Fury has very good upper body movement for a big guy and can fight a little on the inside when necessary Would be a great matchup to see
Based of Fury being dropped by every man and his dog, and a novice but super strong Ngannou giving him hell. George Foreman wins.
