I saw a few days ago one of our long term posters stating Fury would struggle to separate himself from Joe Bugner back in the good old glory days of, what are fast approaching, "yore". Big Bugner's getting some good accolades of late so let's see what our good forum thinks. Bonus question........how do you think Bugner would have went if he took on Fury's career trajectory? Bugner held form over quite a long period of time and his longevity would enable him to fight over the period Fury has particularly given he fought very frequently so the question is more about being good enough than him being shot before the end of the line. Double bonus - who will be the first poster to salivate over the likes of Richard Hall, Bill Drover and Sir Jack Bodell? This one is relatively easy.
I think the only attribute Bugner has over Fury is his chin which is very sturdy apart from that i don't see that Bugner has any other advantages over Fury. Fury is more diverse as a boxer, more skillful, better footwork, to be fair though Fury is quite similar to Bugner in regards to both men can be quite inconsistent in their performances. I think overall this fight would definitely go the distance and if Bugner is willing to have a go he could make it competitive but i see Fury winning in the region of 8-4. If Bugner can go the distance with Ali twice and nick some rounds he can definitely do the same vs Fury. As for if Bugner fought the same opposition as Fury did ? well that's the a tough one. If Bugner was in his best form i could maybe see him upsetting someone like Wilder because Bugner has the chin to withstand Wilder's bombs. The issue is though is that Bugner is even more inconsistent than Fury, and i don't think Bugner is as willing Fury to go into the lions den and really dig deep for a win. All in all Bugner would definitely end up with more losses than Fury had but i still think he would do very respectfully against most of Fury's opposition. Like i said if Bugner is in his best form i could see him upsetting Wilder in atleast 1 of their 3 fights, and definitely beating Whyte aswell who is nothing special.
Fury by decision. We know how passive Joe could be, but he's durable so I see him losing a unanimous decision.
What now?! I thought you put this up with some strange desire to see an absolute given shutout in the votes, but there's actually someone believing this? Have to look at the results.
Two out of eleven for Bugner so far. Surely that must be two posters taking the ****. You should have made it public.
I'm still pissed Cleveland Williams got shutout by George Foreman in the polls, but people are actually voting for Bugner here!!
It is public...... (Not that I agree with your comments about the posters. I don't want to get involved in this lol).
I can think of many things I’d prefer to watching this fight … like a long, slow, painful root canal procedure without anesthesia.
It’s alway important to qualify if this is the “Aussie Joe” version (the best version, of course) we’re talking about or not. If Fury’s smack talk didn’t get your gander up, nothing else would. Bugner would not be at all impressed by Fury’s impoliteness in the lead up. Have you ever seen Bugner fight, driven by seething anger? Okay, not often. For some, perhaps not at all. I saw it once - and what a resulting force of nature he showed himself to be. No more Mr Passive Guy. During the fight in question, Joe said to himself “Okay mate, you’ve crossed the line, fight ends now!” and so it did. No doubt that Fury will cross similar lines - and, for that, he will dearly pay. That’s the version of Bugner that Fury would not like to face. Bugner Unchained.
PS - pity votes are a “thing”. Joe already has two, and that’s more than enough - and I thank those who did vote for Joe - thereby “freeing” me up to vote honestly.
