It shows us how stupid was an idea to create another weight division which is completely empty, uninteresting and no one even knows the so-called 'world bridgerweight champions' The guy who is roughly 220 lbs if he is skilled enough can rule the HW division and doesn't need some divisions in between the CW and HW.
In the past "HW" champs were often under 200# Not even full CW. Now we have a CW division and nobody thinks it's a uninteresting or empty between LHW and HW. It took a while for CW to be accepted. Now only ppl living in the past think HW s/be > 175. Take a deep breath and try to try to think before calling something "stupid" and starting a lame thread
The situation with CW was different. When it was created there were no HW champions under the 190 limit for quite a few years. When the idea of bridgerweight occured there was WBC titleholder Wilder under their limit as well as (then) HW top-contender Usyk who later won an undisputed HW title. During the history of CW there were no examples where a boxer under 190 lbs won or competed for the HW belt. And why don't change CW limit to 205 or even 210? It would have been a better idea than create another division.
Bridgerweight isn't a real weight class and nobody cares about it. Lol Wilder was 210-214 pounds when he was "heavyweight" champion. David Haye was around 210 when he was heavyweight champion. Once you are legit 200 pounds you are a legit heavyweight.
It is dumb because the cruiser limit remains 200...a 25 pound jump from LHW. Yet, the jump to Bridger is 24 pounds...as body weights go up the jumps represent a lesser percentage change per pound, so this is really, really stupid. It they restored cruiser to 190 so LHW only have to jump 15 for another weight class, and then added a "Bridger" at 210-215 for another 20-25 pound jump...well...I would watch it. But yeah, OP is correct. A 224 pound guy is a heavyweight, period.
