Hrgovic vs. Dubois is the biggest fight of a Croatian heavyweight since Lewis vs. Mavrovic.

You are not even aware of how important this fight is for Croatia because we have a small country, we know that many people do not like Hrgovic, but for us Croats this is something big...

I don't think anyone dislikes Hrgovic it's just he had alot of hype and the hype has died down now as he hasn't really gave the fans something to be excited about.

He got alot of flack for the Zhang performance but with hindsight that performance looks considerably better plus his dad had died recently so he probably wasn't in the best of places mentally.

I'll get behind Hrgovic if he can have a standout performance vs Dubois and get me excited to watch him fight again.

Next biggest fight might be Alen Babić vs Filip Hrgović

    The biggest boxing match.

The biggest fight was Filipovic vs Fedor ;)

I don't think he's disliked, he was quite a bit of love on here during the early part of his career when he was beating guys like Mansour and Molina in impressive fashion, he's just not been able to back up that early promise by securing the fights needed to do so and so is now open for criticism.

I've been critical of Hrgovic because of this but I will be rooting for Hrgovic to beat Dubois.

Wasn't Hrgovic vs Zhang just as big?

Not really, Dubois is in the Top 10 while Zhang wasn't even in the Top 20 back then...

You guys can close this thread now, thanks

Fun fact, I saw Crocop in Las Vegas during one of the K-1 shows, he came walking in his sweatsuit with his team behind him and he was just as intimidating as he looks when on his way to the ring. I was an up and coming fighter at the time and was ready at any moment but even I was “naw, not today”, lol.

I assume you saw that time where Bas and Mirko punked Mauro Ranallo right?

My best mate's girlfriend is Croatian and I noticed she vehemently backs the hometown boys no matter which sport they're in. I admire that level of pride in your country, Croatians are an admirable people.

Haha, yes! Bas is another guy that’s even intimidating when he’s laughing and making jokes.

2 absolute frauds in the HW division, neither particularly add anything and both boring as ****.

Will watch the fight though, because I’m a hypocrite like that.

He also has not looked impressive in the ring. He seems to plod forward with no defense and slightly overrated power.

Who knows...maybe he's playing possum and when he gets his shot the REAL Filip Hrgovic will come out?

I doubt it, but we can hope, because this is not the guy that was hyped coming out of the amateurs.

You're not wrong, he has failed to impress with any single performance for a long time. He is at his most effective when pressing, his defence is porous and his power while good doesn't seem to be on the level of the biggest hitters. For me he's a Pulev type fighter but with a bit more power, good at what he does but is limited and will fall short when he does eventually fight the very best.

But maybe he's a fighter who rises to an occasion like a Tyson Fury, can struggle when he feels no threat but raises his level when he perceives a threat. I guess we'll see, this fight with Dubois should hopefully tell us a lot as limited as Dubois is he can bang and he's tested at the highest level and should be a good gauge as how good Hrgovic really is. If he struggles he's probably no better than Joyce, if he crushes Dubois then the hype will return as it will be a good comparison to the Usyk/Dubois fight.
