Roman Martinez, Guillermo Rigondeaux, and Nicholas Walters were all better than Berchelt! And look what happened to them.
Nonsense. Lomachenko has fought the best from start till now throughout his career. He has an excellent resume, he's always either faced the best, or been swerved by the best. Loma has had 21 pro fights, and 17 of those 21 fights were world title fights, no one else has done that.
You do know that his entire Featherweight run post Russell was against unranked opposition, right ? That run lasted for almost 2 years, by the way. That's not fighting the best throughout your career.
For me it was when he let off the gas against Haney. That showed that he doesn’t have that little something needed to be a real atg, at least to me.
From an ATG point of view Lomachenko's story is pretty simple. The man has stunning all time great skills but he has not had an all time great career. We can debate the reasons for that but it's true nonetheless. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an all or nothing situation. Loma has logged some fantastic achievements but his career is missing whatever the ingredient is that would qualify him as an all time great.
Sadly it's his arrogance, He should not fought Lopez when he was not fully healthy, or fought Kambosos for all the belts, when he had a chance Now he is making his life difficult. He could have moved down close to his natural weight and fought at 130 - Foster, Cordina and other champions.
Never really got the hype, yes he is an excellent fighter but an atg? No His loss to Lopez was fair however he was robbed against Haney. Certainly no Sugar Ray
When he lost to Teo (which should've been a draw) and when he lost to Haney (which he maybe won or at least a draw)...but he started both fights too late...gave away too many rounds unfortunately...
Lomachenko is 38 years old with 20 fights. His record is 17-3 lol that alone should kick him out of any ATG convo. You have to have more than 20 fights by the time you are 38
The Lopez loss shouldn't of been a draw Lomachenko threw no punches for 6 rounds and lost the 12th round clearly. He was outlanded in 8 out of the 12 rounds Lomachenko deserved to lose that fight it's his own fault. It would've been a gift decision if Lomachenko would've earnt a draw vs Lopez.
Loma came in fighting dudes who were naturally 2 or 3 divisions smaller than him. He also lost his first title opportunity. The media tried to push the "No Mas Chenko" when he was beating up on them little guys like Rigo. The moment he stepped into a division in which the opponents were closer to his size or bigger, he slowed down on the "dominance" factor. Lost to Teofimo by trying to push a gameplan of "waiting him out into the later rounds" which didn't work. Congrats to him winning titles in 3 divisions but the only one's who argued him to be ATG conversations were his followers or worked for ESPN whom were connected to Top Rank, his promotion company.
