Agree on most part. And he is 38 years old now in just a few months. Punch resistance is one of the first thing to go with age for a lot of fighters. I rate Usyk chin high, but i think Joyce(before it was cracked, as we don't know how strong now is it) has a better chin, and not just Joyce. Disagree with the Lewis part, as he was never willing to fight southpaws, and we don't have any evidence of how he would fair against Usyk.
Surely you aren’t saying Usyk has a great chin. He leans with the punches, his awareness puts him in a position where he usually sees the punches coming and he braces himself.
I think his power would travel up and he wouldn't have to kill himself to make weight or stay close to the 175lbs limit all year around. He walks around at 190lbs so a less stressful camp and less weight cutting at this stage would probably suit him. The bigger guys have less skills and I think Beterbiev has enough left to win a strap there. I'm not seeing the Opatei hype like everyone else it. I expected him to blast Breidis and it went 12 rounds again. Not convinced by him at all tbh
"Haha yeah he's survived everything so far without being rocked but what if I let the biggest power punchers of all time load up a shot on him haha checkmate"...
I don't see it like that. And the jump from 175 to CW and from CW to HW are the biggest in Boxing, and it's extremely hard to do. And doing that at 40 i don't see it at all. Also unless Beterbiev move to CW and start fighting there, we won't know how he will be able to take shots, how his speed will be affected, cardio, and how his power will be compare to LHW. Again if he was 30-35 my opinion would be completely different on that topic.
Yeah being the hardest hitting heavyweight means sweet FA if you can't land the shot. It's why I'd pick Usyk to consistently beat the likes of AJ and Wilder everytime. I'd only give Fury a 50/50 chance because he can mix up his shots and be quite awkward himself.
That’s an excellent consideration and point you made re punch type - and the uppercut is a wicked punch, and has that potential for being unseen for added shock value. Shavers could punch hard absolute, but as it so happened, the uppercut was often his punch of choice - and sometimes, for added effect, Earnie held the back of his opponent’s head at the same time. Also, everything about boxing is relative. Against someone of exactly or around Usyk’s height - Fury’s uppercut might literally have become a harder power punch (as opposed to its force when used against taller opponents). Against Usyk, Fury was perhaps better able to launch from further out, with greater arc/leverage and greater chance of it being undetected. Not saying those are the exact ingredients to the formula, but possible that Usyk was copping Fury’s most potent uppercuts due to the dimensional differences between he and Fury. Going back in time again, see the tall, well reached Monzon and how much advantage and extra power he saw with bolo hooks etc. against much shorter, lesser reached opposition. Actually, Carlos might’ve been a good fighter for Fury to have studied - he could’ve picked up some positive practices from Monzon.
Lewis, Tua, Shavers would destroy Usyk. Neither would fight him timid ilke Joshua did and then Joshau hurt Usyk. Hell Fury hurt Usyk wtih that uppercut and Fury isn't a big puncher and didn't follow it up.
Usyk has a great chin. Fury landed a solid full power uppercut and Usyk took it without staggering- the same uppercut that KO’d Whyte. The fact that he became undisputed CW champion in an era of several heavy hitters underscores it.
No they wouldn't. Lewis the only one who stands a chance. Left hooks generally don't work vs southpaws. Usyk is superior to Byrd who schooled Tua. And way superior to Quarry who owned Shavers.
Neither Shavers nor Tua would land on Usyk. Are you joking? They’re not even close to Usyk in terms of skill level. Lewis would have the best chance. Neither Joshua or Fury put Usyk in a position where he had to hold on. They buzzed him but did not hurt him.
