Fury proclaimed himself to be the best of his era.
Following the defeat to Usyk, to what extent do you consider this to be true, if at all, however briefly?

Usyk was always the best of this era. Fury was just keeping that Lineal Title warm and polished up for him. Did a good job at that at least.

Fury was always a really good HW with size and range. But Usyk is an ATG talent.

Fury was the best of this era by a long shot and Usyk put himself on that same level by beating him.

We'll know in a couple of weeks whether Fury can win the rematch. if he wants an extended break and a standard 8-10 week camp then you know it's not going to happen for him.

He would have been the best of his era if he actually defended his title.

If Fury had not vacated/being stripped of his title in 2017, he could have made 2 defenses a year from 2018 onwards. That would have given him 12-14 title defenses. Even if he lost to Usyk after making a dozen successful defenses vs legit top 10 contenders, he could still have made a case for being the best of his era.

But no, you don't get to be the best of your era when you only have 4 quality wins (Wilder X 3, Wlad X 1) and two other decent wins (Chisora x 1, Wallin)

Usyk's wins over Joshua x 2 are better than Fury beating Wilder and Usyk's win over Fury is at least as impressive as Fury's win over Wlad. So the guy who has only fought at heavyweight for 4 years has a better resume at that weight than the guy who fought at heavyweight for 14 + years.

Best meaning in all of boxing or just HW? Neither is true.

I'm guessing he meant heavyweight. But I guess you can extrapolate from there ... best heavyweight ATG? Best boxer ?? Presume he meant the lot.
I'm not a Fury fan but even im willing to concede it may have been true for a very short period of time (post Wlad, at heavyweight?) But he fell very quickly into the habit of not facing the Best competition (while talking himself up), this rendering the claim a bit pointless ...

He and his followers actually said the is the best of any era, and that he would beat them all.
And even if he had won, he still wouldn't have been neither, as he needs to fight AJ so we know where he is both in H2H and to be proclaimed as the best of this era, let alone something more.

It's too early to say. If Tyson comes back and beats Usyk in the rematch, then he's right back up there. You have to wait for the end of his career to really judge him in my opinion. Currently though, Usyk obviously is the best around now. I don't see how anyone could argue against that, since he got the win against Tyson.

Exactly. One loss and all of a sudden they're nothing. Let their careers play out a bit more before rushing to judgement.

As it stands Usyk is undeniably an ATG, and by the time he hangs then up possibly GOAT across two divisions. It's an exciting time for boxing.

We honestly don't know, the Top 10 haven't been willing to fight each other.. I would say Fury has been managed the best and made smart business moves.

Fury beat Wilder who had no good wins to his resume, Wilders first 39 wins had 1 Top 5 ranked opponent which was Stiverne (Ranked 4th at the time), rest were in the 10's or even multiple 100's, Fury was just the first Top guy that had a crack at him and found him out, outside of Wilder 3 times the resume in and around those 3 fights are rubbish.

Tyson Fury is the best fat crackhead of this era. But in terms of what he accomplished no. He beat a old Wlad barely in a boring fight and he beat a no talent Deontay Wilder. That is pretty much it for him.

We can judge him when it is truly over. No shame in losing to Usyk, that’s an ATG. The shame is in not defending the belt, holding the lineal title hostage and then refusing to fight AJ and putting deadlines on contracts to avoid the fight.

Although a very good fighter, I don’t think he will be remembered for any of his wins but his name will forever be attached to Usyk in defeat. He will be remembered as the guy Usyk beat to become undisputed.

Lol how is Usyk a ATG at heavyweight? Because he beat Anthony Joshua? That is all it takes? Great then Andy Ruiz is a ATG then.

It’s people here that were comparing Fury to the real greats such as Lewis etc. Therefore it has be swallowed the same way. Usyk dealt with Fury easy.
