I read he used to KO every opponet in his amateurs. He had nerly 300 amateur fights and he won 270 of them. Nowdays there are only arm punchers. When Tommy was around he had power to KO anyone.

Well his power couldn't KO anybody. Foreman seemed completely unfazed by Morrison's best shots.

Foreman was completely unfazed by anyone's best shots... Morrison is a KO machine, but with him it's blast them out early or get blasted out yourself

I don't think anyone would dispute Morrison's power. He was a very dangerous world class fighter,
but was not an all-time great. No shame in that.

Great power and tougher than most, unfortunately Morrison lacked discipline and loved to party/women too much. Could have accomplished a lot more if he had been more dedicated to boxing.

Morrison also hit Mercer with what looked like about everything he had, and never appeared to be close to stopping him.

Who was the best opponent that Morrison actually stopped? Maybe a past-prime Ruddock? Joe Hipp? Pinklon Thomas was shot by the time Morrison got to him. Carl Williams was probably past it at that point and couldn't take a punch anyway. Quick Tillis had been stopped 8 times before facing Morrison.

I agree that Morrison could punch, but he doesn't really have much of a history of knocking out top, in-prime Heavyweights.

Eh he made it into a Rocky movie meaning he solidified himself into the history books.

Take AJ as an example of a top current HW. What top, in prime HWs has he KO'd? Wlad K doesn't count, he was far from prime when he fought AJ. I'll wait.

What about Usyk, Fury, Wilder, Parker, etc.? You set a ridiculous standard for Morrison that very few HWs have ever met.

If you made a list of the 10 most devastating left hooks in heavyweight history, Tommy would be somewhere in the top 10. He had a tremendous left hook and very fast hands.

Unfortunately, his chin, defense, and stamina were all subpar.

Terribly overrated and mostly due to PEDs.

Yeah, exactly . I loved The Duke back in the day, his fights were entertaining, you were virtually guaranteed a knockout - one way or another.

But let's be honest, he was limited, as you suggest - poor punch resistance and stamina being his most serious flaws. At the highest levels - even sometimes at lower levels (Michael Bentt being the most notable example here) - this is going to get exposed.

The Duke would always be in contention in any era, I think, and in the weaker ones might win a belt, but in top flight eras like the one he competed in, he'd always be 2nd tier.

Morrison could fight he just had a lack of dedication it’s amazing he got as far as he did with his out of the ring lifestyle. He either knocked someone out or got knocked out. What’s not to like about that?
