Razor Ruddock vs David Tua

I’m leaning towards Tua personally I think his punching power was equal or greater to Ruddocks and his chin was sturdier. Ruddock would have height and reach but he abandoned a lot of his boxing skills in exchange for a puncher’s stance which might not behoove him here. I’ll give Tua a chance at a knockout mid to late rounds but no guarantees

 

Ruddock could, potentially, make this fight much easier by using his height and reach advantages and the jab that earned him his nickname and letting punches flow. But Razor Ruddock had the ring IQ of a potato so he would get his weight on his left foot and look to land his 'smash' that he telegraphed so much that he might as well have delivered it via bicycle courier.
In the other corner would be David Tua who also had a powerful left hook. Tua also had the ring IQ of a potato; how else could he decide that it made sense to bulk up to over 250 pounds. Tua could barely move but he wouldn't have to because the other dingbat would be right there- you can't move with your weight on your left foot- and they would trade left hooks.
Tua threw a shorter hook and took a punch better so you have to favor him, I guess.

 

I don't think Tua was anywhere as good as Tyson was in 1991 but he could change a fight with one shot as good as anyone in the game.

Ruddock at his best should win but seeing his head bobble around against punchers like Tyson, Lewis and Morrison has me concerned.

 

The potato analogy is apt. Both are pretty singular in their style. Ruddock forgot how to box, Tua never had that option. Arguably more durable Tua should win.
Mind you I think the Tyson who twice beat Ruddock would have destroyed Tua I realize that isn’t popular, or directly related but I want to give Razor credit for those efforts. He was a tough guy.

 

The Ruddock from the first Tyson fight might win a decision.

 

To be fair he was past it against Lewis (two beatings from Tyson took some out of him) and pretty much shot against Morrison.

 

Ruddock should win. Simply the more proven fighter imo

Despite looking woeful, I thought Ruddock was in control against Morrison and just got caught wading in without efficiency.

But I do believe Tyson took some out of him. 19 harrowing rounds and only 3 months in between fights.

Ruddock had some speed for a big, powerful puncher. Tough dude with a giant will to win. You'll never see him lose heart or pack it in.

 

More proven in what aspect Swag ? Tua has more notable wins than Ruddock who's mostly known for his losses.

Don't get me wrong I like Ruddock and I also agree the Tyson fights took something out of him, but I'm not sure I'd agree that Ruddock is more proven than Tua.

Tua would KO him, Tua had left hook as good as Morrison but he also had great chin.
Tua by mid-late rounds Tko or KO.

 

Ruddock at his best takes Morrison out before the 6th. Tua would prove difficult despite being more limited than Tommy Gunn. I think it depends how much Ruddock could hurt Tua and earn that respect.

Remember, Tua packed it in against Lennox. Landing power shots caused damage but getting outboxed and looking befuddled was the proverbial nail in the coffin.

Ruddock's power could have Tua thinking twice about coming forward.

 

Well never in a hundred lifetimes would I expect to say this but I think Ruddock’s actual IQ is being undersold here. Even a potato is going to watch footage of an opponent with their trainer, no? Ruddock would be well aware Tua was extremely resilient to power shots & in return had a one-shot hook of his own.

You would have to be a single-called amoeba to be dumb enough to then go risk trading with him when you are aware how limited he is physically & in Boxing ability. Even Ruddock is smarter than that. He plays it smart & wins a decision.
