Just wanted to touch base on JP and his resume. How is stacks up compared to the all time heavyweighters, where it ranks in boxing today & who people would say his top 5 wins are and why. Does he step into the ring with either Usyk or Fury before they retire or will he fight for a vacant title and take on the new up and coming challengers? How trajectory do people see his career going in the next 2-3 years.
He's got time on his side to some extent - he wouldn't mind a crack at Usyk and probably wouldn't mind an AJ re-run either. Not sure either Joe or Fury would really want to get in together, though. Rank right now, solid 4 - behind Usyk, AJ and Fury - but miles ahead of anyone else except those 3.
Haven't both Fury and Parkrr already said they wouldn't fight each other? They're pretty good mates by all accounts. I think Parker is best off avoiding Usyk but another fight with AJ might make sense.
JP has a big opportunity to make one last money fight, if he can get Usyk, that shld set him up financially.
The two best wins of his career are in his last 2 fights. Best win is vs Wilder and second best win is vs Zhang. Did he face them both at the right time when they were on the decline? And future fights for Wilder and Zhang will definitely answer that question. If their careers both tank from now on with no notable wins then that affects how those wins are regarded. The best of the rest of his resume involves losses against AJ, Joyce and Whyte. Some would severely question that loss against Whyte when it comes to rating his resume. It’s a good resume but question marks exist. He belongs in the conversation since those last 2 wins as top 6-7 of this era.
He is only 32 years old. And fact is he has already been WBO Champion. I do not rule it out he will win another Championship. That’s a pretty cool storyline. Right now I rank him solid #4 in the division. As far as all time rankings go he is not really part of that conversation. I am sure he is on Australian/New Zealand level. But not on ATG level. That’s not a dig on Parker, the sport has a long and rich History with many great Champions.
He's a good fighter who's improved and is now in his prime. His resume with wins over Ruiz, Wilder, Zhang, H.Fury, Chisora and Takam and being a former title holder show he's clearly not some hype job or gate keeper level fighter, legit top 5 fighter of this era. But the losses to Joshua, Whyte and Joyce also show he falls short of being great. But he's hitting his prime now and has the 2 best wins of his career in his last 2 fights, so who knows what else he could go onto achieve. He's finally living up to his potential and may continue to improve under Andy Lee.
It is not an all time resume but it puts him there if he keeps fighting and does get a big win. It is certainly the fourth best of currently active heavies.
I agree with everything you wrote there, but in retrospect I think beating 27 year old Ruiz Jr. for the WBO surpasses Wilder (38) and Zhang (40)
Maybe, Ruiz has a better single win than either Wilder or Zhang. Though some will argue Parker lost to Ruiz, though personally I scored that fight narrowly for Parker. The Wilder and Zhang wins are more impressive to me due to how easily he handled them both.
