Clearly no. Wilder was a marketing gimmick from start to finish. He fought the most pathetic stiffs his management could find for 6 years and then (very) carefully selected mediocre also-rans, fringe contenders, and other assorted beatable opponents until they selected Fury, who they thought was washed up. And after that the jig was up, the con game exposed
Never cared for the man. He has tremendous power and heart. But also he has zero skills, he is terribly childish and classless in defeat, believes in ridiculous conspiracy theories and wanted to murder someone in the ring. All in all, there is just nothing likeable about his character. It was satisfying to see that Zhang finished him off tonight.
Regardless of what my personal feelings are for a fighter, even if they're an absolutely terrible human being, I respect any person who has the courage to lace them up and climb between those four ropes But absolutely not, no
Blud got tha underdog aura : could have been the improved version of Earny Shavers from this era and has daughter with spina bifida which is a disease I would not wish even to my worst enemy yet still managed to be hated. This ability speaks volumes about him.
As much as I do any man who has the stones to lace em up for a living. Which is a lot as a man. Do I think him a great champion? Er.... nah.
Yes, I respect any boxer cause I could never do what they do, but add to the fact he was a long time champion despite having limited ability and he had plenty of heart and gave us some of the best fights ever
I respect him as I do every fighter who steps in the ring, and especially those who for the sake of entertainment go out on their shields. Mad respect to Wilder.. despite his limited skills always went in to give it his best and fought most of the top fighters of his era.
I respect that he fought Parker and Zhang, and cashed out, and is now finally out of the picture. To be fair, he only lost to Fury because of that ring walk costume, otherwise he's have a win over Fury, no doubt.
Was a fan through thick and thin and for better or worse and I don't like the excuse making or allegations lobbed at Breland but I still respect what he did in the ring.
He took six years and over 30 fight before he stepped in the ring with an opponent who could pose any threat to him - giving him, quite possibly, the most ridiculously padded record in modern boxing - which meant he surprised me and earned some measure of respect when he was able to beat Stiverne the first time just because that was a massive step up in quality compared to his previous 32 opponent and I didn't think he'd win. He made no attempt to chase after either Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko, he never had a fight with Joshua when it mattered - and possibly never will now - he made no attempt to fight the other champions of the division after Fury retired the first time and vacated the belts, the best name he ever beat was Stiverne or Luis Ortiz - neither of whom have great resumes themselves - and he was fortunate to escape his trilogy with Fury without three losses. I find it hard to give him that much respect because of these things. He was a better-than-average fighter but not much more than that, and I dont think history is going to regard him highly.
No. He's a horrible person/personality. A total narcissist fraud. Writing off Mark Brelend was the nail in the coffin for me. Let alone the assault charges involving a woman. He's a nasty piece of **** and has got everything he deserved, because he's never worked properly or respected the game.
