I don't know if his friends called him Rip or not but I just knew him as daddy. And he could rip 'em with the best, I guess.

Hagler for sure. He was my first boxing hero, and I loved everything about the guy. His menacing look, his ability, his hard road to the top, the dedication, all of it. He was a true throwback, and a changing era where things seemed more disposable he had a sense of permanence about him that seemed to fit another time.

Pacquiao. I was a teenager when he was in his prime. I remember constantly thinking “OK this time he really is biting off more than he can chew!”… and always being proven wrong, usually in a big way.

As crazy as his run was back then, it’s somehow even crazier in hindsight…

Growing up for me it was Tyson…I was still in the UK back then and stayed up (very) late to watch him beat Berbick and was hooked.
So given that ‘86 aged 14 was when I really got interested, I also loved watching Chavez, Benn, Holyfield, Fenech and the last few fights between the Four Kings…Hearns especially never ceased to be exciting.
