If Bivol beats Beterbiev I'd say he breaks into the top 4 and makes 2,3,4 interchangeable. Converse is true also.
Beating a ginger fraud doesn't make you p4p imo and neither does struggling with guys like Richards and Salamov. If you match Bivol with the right opponents he looks like a million bucks but he looks pedestrian on the front foot and doesn't have enough dimensions to crack my p4p list personally. Bivol is exceptional at what he does but what he is capable of doing is also quite limited. I prefer having fighters who have shown an ability in a lot of capacities (front foot, back foot, outboxing, outfighting, counterpunching are the usual criteria I use, if a fighter can pass all of these then I think they deserve recognition as one of the best fighters on the planet since their depth of skill would make them one of the 10th most winningest fighters currently if every fighter were the same size and fought each other, this is pretty much how I conceptualise pound for pound and is what I believe the term was originally intended to mean) rather than one who has shown an extraordinary ability in only a single department.
You forgot to mention infighting, ring generalship, head movement, KO%, and trashtalking, aggression, chin. Just want to ensure you have a full portfolio for "your criteria" before a fighter "deserves recognition." Sarcasm aside, your post was dumb enough to actually make me reply. Good job.
Well you had Canelo p4p number 1 at the time of the fight and you picked Canelo to win, so I'm surprised you don't give him that much credit.
Definite Top 10, not all fighters have power but Bivol has skills and a good chin to boot, been hit clean a few times from big punches and ate it.
https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/canelo-vs-bivol-prediction-thread.685446/ I see your name in the list of people who voted for canelo in the poll. Is the site glitched?
My criteria focuses on styles to be clear. Every boxing contest comes down to how each style interacts with each other but a truly advanced fighter is able to fight with more than a single style. Bivol hasn't shown the ability to fight effectively in other styles though afaik and has been matched with guys who are intended to make him look good. He's not an effective fighter coming forward and this has been made clear in a number of his fights. If we want to use the criteria of resume though he still does pretty poorly I think. Has he ever really beaten an A level fighter? I don't think he's beaten a LHW ranked in the top 5 yet iirc. Canelo is a fraud with a fake career who had no business at 175. Bivol's level of competition has been pretty poor imo. Maybe he's just been holding out on his bag of tricks to get more people to fight him (Pirog did a similar thing to land the Jacobs fight, a lot of Eastern Europeans and Cubans make themselves look bad to get people to fight them on purpose) but surely being a Saudi favourite and victor over boxing's biggest cash cow would mean that that wouldn't really be that big of a problem for him. I respect Bivol and think he's an exceptional talent, I enjoy watching him fight, but to pretend that the quite clear limitations he has simply don't exist and that his style would work as effectively as it does for pressure fighters as it would for clever out-boxers or savvy counter punchers his own size seems a touch naive to me. I think the p4p discussion is a fun and exciting one for boxing fans and I think people's different criteria and standards should be a point of argumentation but I don't appreciate the condescending manner in which you've done so.
